How a throwaway car became a decade plus commuter vehicle!
Back in late 2003, I had moved far away from my job and it required me to drive upwards of 3 hours a day to and from my office. At the time I drove a Jeep and the gas mileage was horrible, so I knew it was time to get something a bit more fuel efficient. So, I checked out all the vehicles available at the time and settled on the Hyundai Sonata. I wasn't particularly enamored with the car at the time of purchase, but it got decent gas mileage, it was big enough to fit 4 people comfortably (if that was needed) it had leather and was totally loaded for around $21k. At the time, I was not very familiar with Hyundai other then I knew they built and sold cars that were value oriented (ie. cheap). I figured I'd keep the car for 2 or 3 years then trade it on something I actually wanted. Fast forward 10 years. I'm still driving the Sonata. It has been an INCREDIBLE car. In 10 years time, I have NEVER brought it into the dealer for anything other then maintenance. That's right, NOTHING has broken on the car at all! I've just changed the oil, brakes and tires on regular intervals and the car just keeps going. It is definitely the most reliable vehicle I have ever driven. But it goes beyond that, the interior is comfortable (black leather) and to this day it still looks brand new. Many times after a couple years, leather gets wrinkly and cracked, but the leather in the Sonata has held up perfectly. All the electrical systems (radio, heating / AC, locks windows) have worked without a hiccup. I even still have the original battery in my key fob! Being a ten year old, it is without many of the newer conveniences like a touch screen entertainment center or safety features like blind spot monitoring or backup camera. But it was competitive to the options available at the time. If there's anything I could change about the car it would be a slightly bigger trunk. Also, I got the V6 model, which only averages about 21-22 mpg in combination of city and highway driving.

Best car for the money
I own a 2009 Hyundai Sonata that was purchased in 2010 with 34,000 miles. It now has over 168,000, still running and driving like a dream. The overall aesthetics are still appealing. I love how well the body has held up. I have the oil changed, the tires rotated, and the interior cleaned regularly and I think that is why it's in such nice shape. It's only 4 cylinder but can get out of the way of trucks on the highways and bad drivers on the turnpikes. I have had great luck with gas consumption being between 18 and 36 mpg.
