When I purchased my Jeep Grand Cherokee, it was used. I knew going into it that it was an older car and may have some issues due to the age of the vehicle. It does really well in the snow, and I like how I can fit a lot of storage in the car. Because it is older, I am not as concerned with the cosmetics of the car, but I know that because of its size, I am mostly safe while driving. It is easy to drive, spacious, and has nice speakers for me to listen to music.
Story
While in Pennsylvania traveling back to Maryland, the person in front of my vehicle on a one lane bridge ran out of gas in the middle of the bridge. There were no shoulders and concrete barriers on either side. I ended up having to push them with the front bumper of my Jeep until they could pull off of the road after the bridge.
Pros
I like that this vehicle is four-wheel drive (high and low). It has helped me many times in the snow, and I feel more confident driving it in cold whether than I would your average sedan. It has a lot of space for me to haul large objects (people, larger furniture). I can fold the back seats down, so it almost becomes like a pickup truck. I don't generally get stuck in the mud ever due to four-wheel drive also.
Cons
I get terrible gas mileage because of the vehicle size. I have also had to replace many things since the vehicle has been purchased due to age. Fortunately, I have access to a mechanic (family member) who is readily able to fix problems quickly without charging me for it. Looking at only purchases (and not mechanic labor), I have put 3,000 to 4,000 dollars into the car replacing various parts like tires, tie rods, windshield wipers, and spark plugs. It still has a few problems (loses windshield wiper fluid) but drives fine. The car is 15 + years old, so these things are expected.

I owned a '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee for a few months, but due to required maintenance, I chose to sell it. This vehicle was bought for a relatively cheap dollar amount, though it did require maintenance. If I would have had the money to do so, I would have certainly performed the maintenance and retained possession of the vehicle. I replaced the stereo head unit (with a factory unit), speakers (new, basic style), tires, support bars for the back lift-door and other small updates. What needed to be fixed when I got rid of the vehicle was a new transmission and exhaust system. I have heard that this vehicle has had transmission issues, so that would be a down side. However, the way this vehicle handled, its 4x4, and engine power were of great benefit to me. My personal favorite feature of... (more)
Story
While not exactly fun, certainly a memorable experience was with the first decent snow of the season going out and using the 4x4 for the first time. It handled great in the snow, but when I went to see a friend, I was attempting to parallel park, and at that moment, I lost reverse and never had that gear again. Needed a new/rebuilt transmission.
Pros
4x4, size, comfort, horsepower, and storage capacity.
Cons
Transmission and fuel economy -- transmission had an effect on this.

Our sales rep was wonderful! He was very patient with all of my questions-I came back more than once before purchasing and he was just as helpful each time. I had a hard time choosing from 3 that I had in mind, and never did I feel pressured by him to buy the most expensive one. I love the idea of no-haggle also! It makes the car buying experience so easy and straightforward.
