This car was exactly what we were looking for in a mid-size SUV. My wife and I enjoy taking the Jeep everywhere because it is comfortable, attractive enough to drive into the city and rugged enough to carry lumber in. It has the getup I need to get around in city areas so it feels agile enough for everyday driving. The ride is smooth yet fairly responsive for a SUV. Its smaller size means that even parallel parking is easy. It's roomy and it's a pleasure loading groceries or lumber because of the foldable rear seats. The body is more attractive than older / newer Jeeps that have that "ugly" look. However, it doesn't feel like a pristine car I have to baby, so the superficial maintenance is kept to a minimum.
Story
I was loading up 2x4's with my brother in law and to fit it in, I had to nudge them against the windshield ( from the inside! ) I repeatedly bashed the 2x4's in to try to squeeze them, unaware that it was cracking the windshield. Lo' and behold, the windshield is cracked.
Pros
This is dependable, even after 200k miles. Handles well. Surprisingly roomy. Great value compared to other cars in its class.
Cons
This thing guzzles gas (it is an old car after all). The windows don't work anymore and this seems to be a common issue with the model. The interior is dated.

When I began looking for a new car to replace the truck I was currently driving, I immediately gravitated toward the Grand Cherokee. I still needed the cargo space provided by the truck, but with plenty of room for my family. The dealership had both the Grand Cherokee and a Dodge Durango for me to choose from, and the Grand Cherokee easily won my vote. The Durango was a year newer, but had lower gas mileage ratings and was really bigger than I needed. The Grand Cherokee offered the styling I was looking for along with decent gas mileage and Jeep reliability. A newer model was out of my price point, but the 2008 model was still modern looking enough to not be outdated.
Pros
The styling and reliability were this vehicle's top attributes for me. I was shopping in a particular price range, and most of the vehicles I found had an older look to them. Jeep has always been a preferred maker in my family, so it was a natural choice. Among family and friends, I do not know one that has had significant issues with their Jeep or has been displeased with it in any major way.
Cons
My main complaint with the 2008 Grand Cherokee is the gas mileage. Compared to other foreign makers, the gas mileage really does not stack up. I can only get about 16.5 mpg combined city and highway and up to 21 mpg highway. I have owned two other makes of SUVs of a similar size in the past and for a V6, it was a little lacking. I also made the choice to go with a 2WD Grand Cherokee, which works perfectly fine for me. Though it does hurt the resale or trade in value significantly. When I go to purchase my next Grand Cherokee, I will likely choose the 4WD option to protect my investment.
