2001 Jeep Wrangler - I wouldn't buy another one.
I had wanted a Jeep for a long time. Of course I did! They are fun and cool. I went to see a friend a few towns over, and her boyfriend had this yellow Jeep, and I fell in love with it. A few months later, my friend told me he was selling it, so I bought it for five grand. It had 100,000 miles on it but was in great shape. Immediately after taking ownership, the top began to literally fall apart at the seams. New tops are not cheap. To be honest, as in love with it as I was... driving it was a different story. As I said, my friend lived a few towns over, so I picked it up and had to drive it home. This is not a car you want to be driving at 70 mph. A semi passed me, and I thought I was a goner. It's like driving an orange juice can. Another thing I noticed is...well, I have always been... (more)

It's like driving an orange juice can. Another thing I noticed is...well, I have always been a very careful safe driver...not like a grandma but no tickets and no accidents. I always signal, etc.. But driving the Jeep, I noticed myself driving worse. I don't know why -- it's weird. In some ways it's fun to drive, like with the top off on a late summer evening, but it's not what you would call a comfortable ride or a safe one for that matter. I'm about to sell it. They hold their value -- I will give it that. Oh and let's see, I've had my stereo stolen, the spare on the back stolen, my registration sticker stolen, and found evidence of someone I guess sleeping in it. I live in a great low-crime neighborhood, but it's wide open.
A guy at the gym left a note on my car that said he had a bunch of Jeep stuff he didn't need anymore if I wanted it, so he gave me seat and steering wheel covers -- stuff like that. That was nice.

Good looking. Jeep people will always stop to help you if you need it. Surprisingly, it is really tiny...like Miata tiny. You can fit it in any space. It's nice to have the top off. There are lots of accessories for it if you are into that kind of thing. They hold value. Removable back seat.

Can't ever find it in the parking lot behind other cars. Very tiny. The top is a pain in the butt to take off. Easy target for thieves. Rough ride. Very high rollover risk. Expensive to replace top ($600). One word: cats.

1999 Jeep Wrangler - fantastic and fun to drive
The 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sahara was a great vehicle to own. I was always fun to drive, take off road and even drive to the store. It makes you want to drive even more.

I remember going off road in the summer. One of the road was on a very steep slant and looked like it rolled right off into the valley below. The vehicle made it down and around that road with ease. It made off road travel a dream. However, it didn't handle very well in the snow. After the first snow for a long while, the flow of traffic was 35 in the 65 mph zone. It made off road travel a dream. However, it didn't handle very well in the snow. After the first snow for a long while, the flow of traffic was 35 in the 65 mph zone. While maintaining 35, the top heavy vehicle hit ice, spun and flipped. It was completely totaled. I would love to get the car again, however, I would not recommend that anyone try to drive these in any kind of snow/ice or slippery conditions at all. It has a greater chance of getting into an accident than most other vehicles.
The vehicle has the option of a hard top, soft top or even no top. This makes it much easier to cool off in the summer months and keep out the weather in the harsher weather too. It had great steering, shifted smoothly, was able to go off road for a 4 wheel drive. Easy to operate and easy to maintain.

The vehicle has much to be desired with respect to gas mileage. It only got 13-14 mpg. Although it had the option of hard or soft top, it took a long time to heat up or cool off with the heater or A/C as there was no insulation between the roof and outside to keep the temperature moderate. It was a bit hard to drive in the wind would catch the car no matter what direction it was coming from. It is also very top heavy, which can cause accidents very easily.
