Kia Sportage Owner Ratings & Reviews

2008 Kia Sportage - Great, family car.
As a family of five, I was surprised that we could still fit inside. That includes three car seats! I love that the car is extremely durable, as I haven’t had any major issues over close to seven years of ownership. What I don’t like about it are just some small things. The material of the seats aren’t as quite as durable as the rest of the car. It’s fabric, so it stains quite easily. Also, the vents would make little clicking noises when used. While it didn’t affect the heat or A/C, it was just very annoying. Also, the vehicle doesn't have remote unlocks. Trivial but unexpected for a 2008 vehicle.
Story
My family and I took our first road trip with the vehicle. We drove from Phoenix to San Diego. It was the kids first time being in the car for that long, but they did amazing. Although the iPads help, there weren’t any issues. They loved the scenery too. We played games, and the kids asked a ton of questions. It was super fun.
Pros
Durable. Extremely durable. With close to 150k miles, it runs extremely smoothly. This is a vehicle where nothing may work, but it will still run! There’s plenty of space. I love that I can let down all my seats to move next to anything! I do like the indicators for things like tire pressure and battery. Those are very useful.
Cons
The lack of updated features even for a mid 2000s vehicle. Also didn’t like the material used in the vehicle for the seats. I don’t like that the vehicle didn’t come with a tow package.
2000 Kia Sportage - Beware the solenoids
Kia Sportage which has an intermittent problem starting due to the 1950's technology of the solenoids. Fortunately there are 2 of them exactly the same in the engine section located on top. Can switch to see if start. It is only $15. Do NOT buy a $15 from Auto Zone - that was worse than the one I was trying to replace. Same $15 from dealership - never had a problem again in regards to intermittent starting problem
Story
Trying to photograph lightning bolts. But back hatch open, put the back seat down, have camping mat that I can lay out on. If raining sideways than can bring tripod totally inside the back while still taking long exposures using remote. I use the point and pray system of photography.
Pros
I like the 8" clearance when going up twisting mountain dirt roads that are not recommended for passenger cars.
Cons
Bought the car at 10 years old. Previous owner had probably replaced EVERYTHING on the car due to this stupid intermittent false error codes due to the 1950's technology of the solenoids.
I too was bamboozled by crooked shysters at the garage
Fist time mechanic said it was a loose solenoid - he pointed to the one he tightened the contact. Then sunk in $500 of un-needed 'repairs' due to false code all over the place - each one different. Felt the mechanic was sucking me dry. So I went ahead and replace the solenoid on my own. Too bad I didn't do that before throwing away $500.

Phoenix, AZ Dealer Ratings & Reviews

2008 Kia Spectra - Earnhardt Kia Phoenix
The customer service and respect given made this dealership the best.
2015 Kia Rio - Tempe Kia
The car dealer was okay. The salesperson ripped us off and lied to us about being approved for a lease, let us drive it off the lot and called us back the next day telling us we had to buy it at a higher price.
