2006 Mazda Mazda6 - Comfortable yet sleek
I loved the shape in general, especially the spoiler. The ride is smooth. The black interior is made from the softest fabric I've ever felt in a car. It's cozy enough to take a nap in! The gear shift is small, out of the way, and transitions easily. The trunk has plenty of room. It picks up speed quickly as well. However, the cloth from the roof did start to come down at the 10 year mark. Also, after several years of ownership, the paint began peeling off of one door in large pieces during some very cold weather. Another negative was that our engine completely blew up on it a few years after we bought it and we had to use our warranty to replace it. To be fair, this may have just been the previous owner's treatment of it. All in all, though, the car very rarely had to have repair work ... (more)
Story
We have a lot of gravel country roads in our area in rural Nebraska. I remember trying to get to a family member's house for the holidays and getting the car stuck in a snow drift. The car doesn't have four-wheel drive, but we managed to rock it free and laughed with relief the whole way there.
Pros
The overall look of the car is just sporty and fun. I loved that my particular model came with a great stereo and Bose speakers. My favorite thing is that the seats are soft and fit comfortably, unlike other stiff and itchy interiors. I also loved taking advantage of the sun roof!
Cons
The black interior caused excessive heat retention in the summer. Mechanic work is difficult to do on your own because of the compact front end. Also, the way the car is shaped conflicts with the lowness of the seats and creates a fairly large blind spot where the frame is on either side of your front windshield.
