2011 Smart fortwo - Great car in a tiny package
Personally, I love my fortwo - but it's definitely not for everyone. It's only a two-seater, which is a deal breaker for some, but it does have more storage/trunk space than you would expect from the outside. Overall, the car handles fairly well, gets pretty good gas mileage (40+mpg) and it certainly makes an impression.
Pros
The base models are quite affordable in the Smart line. The sport-shift transmission with paddle shifters is very useful on hills and high-torque situations when compared to a fully automatic transmission. Since there is no back seat, there is a lot of leg room for the passengers, even though the car looks tiny from the outside. Cons
The car takes only high octane gasoline (91 or higher). Also, if you drive strictly with the transmission in automatic, it is terrible on hills. The car always seems to want to stay in a lower gear than it should (usually for me, I notice it sticking in 2nd gear when I would have shifted to 3rd in a manual). This is pretty easily avoided once you get comfortable with the sport shift option, but it can be a bit intimidating in the beginning. The trunk space in the car is actually rather roomy, more than enough space for several bags of groceries, but it does have a 100 pound weight limit si... (more)
