Subaru Foresters are really good cars. The build quality is extremely solid. While most cars now feel like tin cans, the Forester has the substance of a truck, while driving and handling like a car. The all wheel drive system is phenomenal, and makes driving in snow and ice really easy. The standard roof rack has been great for moving and canoeing. The downside of the Forester is the gas mileage, with the extra weight and all wheel drive, there's just more car to move. Expect around 22 MPG, which isn't so bad now that gas prices have dropped. The other major concern is head gaskets tend to go out in the 2.5 liter engine. If it has been replaced then you're good to go, as the replaced gasket fixes the issue.

My Subaru Forester has been a great car to drive the last couple of years. The seats are comfortable, and it handles snow and ice quite well. I love the amount of space inside and stands up to my dogs very well.
