My Subaru Forester is an excellent car! Not only is it reliable and practical, but it is the perfect car for weekend adventures. The AWD makes it possible to tackle steep dirt roads in order to get to that perfect campsite. Plus, it has a surprising amount of storage space when you fold down the back two seats. This is the perfect car if you need a little bit of everything: reliability, ruggedness, storage space, and economy.
Story
My wife and I took our Subaru camping at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It was a really fun trip, however it started pouring rain while we were there. We were very thankful to have Subaru's AWD so that we could make it out through the muddy backroads.
Pros
- Overall reliability is one of the top pros for the Subaru Forester. I drove it for nearly 200,000 miles and only had to do routine maintenance. - Safety is another pro. With Subaru's impressive AWD, you will have much better traction in wet and snowy conditions. - The Subaru Forester has an impressive amount of storage space. If we are going camping for the weekend, it's easy to fit 4 people, luggage, and camping gear in the back. - The AWD makes it possible to tackle just about any terrain. Whether you're trying to get over an icy mountain pass or up a steep dirt road, the Forester w... (more)
Cons
- Because of its AWD, the Subaru Forester gets lackluster fuel economy for such a small car. I typically only get about 23 mpg, when a similar sized car without AWD would get much closer to 30 mpg. - Because of the short wheelbase, the back seats do not have much legroom. This makes it a cramped ride if you need to carry more than 2 adults. - The head gaskets on old Subaru engines are notoriously fickle. We had to replace the head gaskets on our engine, and that is a very expensive repair.

I really like the cargo space and the handling. It's great for camping, light off-roading, and winter use. We did have to replace a few things on it, and it is now leaking oil out of the head gasket. This car has been so trusty and has never broken down on us. The issues that popped up we were able to take them into the shop to get them fixed, but it has never stranded us on the side of the road.
Story
Taking this baby into Yellowstone with my wife and friends was definitely a memorable trip.
Pros
The Forester is built to last a whole lot of miles. It has great visibility and excellent cargo space for camping, road trips, and other outdoor adventures. The all-wheel drive got me out of a number of sticky situations.
Cons
I wasn't that a big of a fan of the cloth interior, especially on the driver's set seat that got a lot of use and started to rip. There were general things that malfunctioned on the car that you would probably expect on every car, but it held up pretty well considering the amount of abuse we put it through. The oil leakage has been an issue and is something that has become more and more of annoyance over time as the miles have racked up on the car. It is now leaking out of the head gasket but can still be controlled as long as you keep an eye on it.

The salesman worked with my husband the prior week letting him know when the car was to be delivered to the dealership and when the inspection was done. Pulled the car around for us to check out on Friday night right before they closed. It still had plastic on it from shipping and the salesman let us sit in it and answered questions. Came back the following morning right when they opened and purchased it. The salesman was very patient and diligent in working with my used-to-be-a-car-salesman-and-thinks-he's-still-got-it husband.

I love this dealership! I was in the market for 2012 Subaru Impreza, however all of the 2012 models where already sold. I went to Diablo Subaru on a whim one night after work, to find to my surprise a 2011 Subaru Impreza! It was 100% what I was looking for, small, cute, and red! It was their loaner car, however after some easy negotiating, we where able to make a deal. The sales person was easy to talk to, financing was easy and I felt very satisfied with my purchase.
