2015 Subaru Legacy - Excellent value for your money
The 2015 Subaru Legacy offers excellent value through comfort, safety and convenience features. This is the first car that I've owned that has these great safety features: blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control and emergency braking. These safety features are used almost on a daily basis, and I would not get another car without them. The 2015 Legacy also is roomy and comfortable, with seating for five adults. I like the split, folding rear seat, which allows me to take my skis inside the car. The standard AWD of the Legacy has gotten me safely through numerous snow falls where other cars were skidding off the road or stuck on a hill. The fuel efficiency is also a nice bonus, as I have gotten as much as 35 mpg on the highway, cruising at 65-70 mph. Maint... (more)
Story
Driving home from work during a surprise snow squall, I was able to easily climb a steep hill near my house when other cars, and even some 4WD pickup trucks, were stuck on the hill. The look on their face (especially the big pickup truck drivers) as I cruised by was priceless.
Pros
Favorite features are the Eyesight collision avoidance, AWD, blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, heated seats, and back-up camera
Cons
2.5 Liter engine is a little underpowered. Would like the outside temperature and clock displays to be larger and more prominent on the infotainment display.
2000 Subaru Legacy - Reliable considering its age
I like the fact that it has all-wheel drive which makes it great in the winter on bad roads. I've never had any problems even in harsh winter conditions. It also has heated seats which is nice when its cold out. The all leather interior is also nice and helps keep it clean. Although, on hot summer days, it can get really hot inside the car if it's parked in direct sunlight. It has a four-cylinder engine, so it gets pretty good gas mileage. I have had some problems with the alternator though and had to have it replaced. It destroyed a couple batteries until I discovered the route of the issue. It also has severe rust on undercarriage of the car. But, considering its age, and the fact that it's stored outdoors during our bad winters, it's to be expected. Due to the rust, I had to have ba... Story
Driving in a snowstorm past tons of cars that had slid off the road while having no issues myself. Watching people try to make it up steep hills only to slide back down. Then driving up those same hills with no issues.
Pros
Having AWD for in the winter. The heated seats and leather interior. The relative spaciousness of it for a sedan. The fact that it still runs after 17 years with only a few repairs.
Cons
The undercarriage seems prone to rust. The alternator and exhaust systems I had to have replaced. How hot it gets inside the car during the summer. Not all garages are able to service it.
