I bought our Rav4 as a family commuter vehicle. Basically we are a family of four and use it to commute to and from work, school, shopping, and any/all other activities. We selected the Rav4 in part because it is a popular model, the Toyota brand is trusted, and we believed it would likely retain value in the years ahead such that we could sell it for a decent price once we wanted to get a newer car. The car offers plenty of room for our family, including our dog. It has lots of trunk space, and tie-down bars on the roof to store items if we are going on a longer trip.
Story
There are quite a few silver Rav4s in our area, and it is not uncommon to park near 1-2 other similar vehicles. We have accidentally approached and tried to enter other silver Rav4s parked near our own. When you own a popular model one has to be careful about identifying their vehicle in a crowd.
Pros
Toyota engines run smooth and have proven to be very reliable. We haven't been disappointed with our Rav4. We have owned this vehicle for two years and we haven't had any mechanical issues whatsoever. We've only needed to perform normal maintenance. It has been worry-free. The leather interior throughout the front and back is quite comfortable, and handles reasonably well the mess our dog inevitably makes with her wet and dirty paws. Plenty of trunk space has served us well on longer driving trips, school outings, and busier shopping trips.
Cons
We bought this car used and were unable to find a vehicle in a preferred color. Thus we settled for this silver model. Also, the vehicle had been originally bought and owned somewhere on the east coast, where it sustained some wear and tear related to icy road conditions and the salt that east coast cities put on their roads during icy conditions.

2007 Toyota RAV4 - Good, reliable vehicle

I purchased my 2007 Toyota RAV4 used in 2015 from a local Toyota dealer. At the time, my current vehicle was breaking down and I needed to get something quickly for my job out in the country side. The purchase was a little over-budget as I did get a service plan. But so far, it’s been reliable after some repairs and hanging in there for its age.
Story
I took the RAV4 on a 4-day trip through Montana and it handled going over the two mountain passes really well. It was like driving on a Nascar track with how curvy all the turns were on the highway.
Pros
This small SUV has excellent fuel economy in both city and highway driving, even with a hungry V6 engine. My drive to work is about 5 miles away, so I only need to fill it up about every other week. If I go on a long highway drive, the fuel is plenty to get between cities. It handles okay on the snow and ice, although I’m never quite sure if the 4-wheel drive is going or not. It does have more than enough storage space in it for a hauling around a family of two and a dog.
Cons
The seats are a bit on the hard side, which is not good for long highway trips or arthritic joints (I have both). Later on, it needed quite a few wear and tear repairs: worn suspension, new tires, a grinding steering column U-joint, and broken sway bars. It is definitely not a vehicle meant for driving out in the country side where the terrain can be rougher.
