99 Jetta
I loved my 99 Jetta. I was the second owner, likely after an expired lease. I purchased it from the dealer. The car did require new wheel work, related to the velocity joint, but thankfully that was covered by the warrantee. My particular model did not have power windows and was unfortunately in black. Having lived in the south, a black car was did get hot. I used and abused this poor vehicle and it held up nicely through the abuse. Jetta's are not meant for taking out on forested dirt tracks and this car was a trooper. I did have to replace the oil pan three times and the wind shield at least twice. Certainly not the intended use for this type of low clearance vehicle and I would not subject a Volkswagen to such abuse again. I did find that the smallest rock chip on the edge of the windshield would spider out overnight, an annoying problem. My Jetta did drink oil but as long as I checked the oil with every fill up, and was prepared to top off as needed, this never became an issue. I was huge into kayaking, I was pleased that the car could handle a play boat inside the backseat. I was also quite pleased that I could get paddles inside the car when at least part of the backseat was folded down. I also could fit an 18 foot sea kayak and a play boat on the after market roof rack. Because the vehicle is not tall, I was able to put the boats on alone and standing on wheels, able to tie the boats down. A front tow bolt helped complete the four tie points.

Great experience with my Volkswagen Jetta
This is a car that took a licking and kept on ticking. I got into a couple minor accidents with my car and although there was some superficial damage, the rest of the car held up great. It was a great size, both easy for parallel parking in a busy city and loading it up with lots of stuff to move and take road trips. I liked the way it looked and it wasn't too flashy. It was practical, reliable, comfortable, and decent fuel economy.
