2000 Chevrolet S-10 - I bought my S-10 brand new. I would not trade it, never had any trouble out of it.

My friends and I have owned s10's since we were old enough to drive. I bought my Chevy s10 for $3800.00 with 168k on the odometer. Since that time it has towed my boats, pulled trucks 3 times its size off the beach, been loaded with 1500 lbs. of concrete blocks for home improvement projects, spent a good deal of time off -roading in the hills of KY, and all the while took me an additional 72,000 miles. I have now passed the truck to my brother who uses it every day. I can't say enough good things about it. It is completely bulletproof. There is a good reason you see so many of these things on the road to this day. There is nothing on the road today that possesses the rugged simplicity of the S10.
Story
I used this truck for work and towing and beat the living piss out of it.
Pros
Smooth shifting reliable automatic transmission. This is the most reliable transmission out there. Sure other transmissions have 5 and 6 speeds but the s10 makes the most out of its 4 gears. Cruises at 70mph at approximately 2000 rpm which is within the torque band for towing. Repair parts for the s10 are plentiful and cheap. Any part that is needed to repair a S10 is available at any auto parts store. Parts are significantly less than other trucks in the class. 4.3L V6. Any mechanic will tell you this is one of the most reliable engines made by any manufacturer. It may not be the most eff... (more)
Cons
Cabin materials- All hard plastic. All pieces have gaps between them. Then again its a truck. What do you expect. Stock stereo- I would suggest replacing with any aftermarket along with the speakers Electronic Transfer Case motor- If you use 4 wheel drive often this will go out and need to be replaced.

Overall I've had a good experience with this truck. I've owned it for almost ten years and I've never had any major problems with it falling apart - besides the normal wear and tear.
Story
I used to live on a pretty steep hill and would park it in front of my apartment facing downhill. We had some pretty heavy rains one weekend and the truck bed filled up with water that was unable to drain out given the angle the truck was parked at. So the entire back of the truck filled with water and when I went to drive it to work on Monday it slowly drained out the back as I drove with eve... (more)
Pros
I like that the cab is small because I usually don't need any additional room besides the passenger seat to store my items. Also the truck bed is handy when moving or just for transporting dirty things like plants, water sports equipment, etc. But mostly I never have to worry about it not starting.
Cons
The air has never worked but that hasn't been a huge issue since I live in a mild climate. There isn't much space inside the cab which is an issue for carpooling and also securing items inside the vehicle. I've had problems with the door locks from time to time. The driver's side door hangs funny and you have to slam it upward so that it'll close. Because of this I've also had to replace the lock on the door a few times.
