2012 Cadillac SRX - Comfort and luxury
This vehicle was initially chosen due to its quick depreciation of value. I bought this 2012 SRX in 2015 and only paid ~40% of it original MSRP. We initially were attracted to this vehicle because we needed more space than our previous sedans provided for longer road trips with our two dogs. The SRX provides as good amount of cargo space with the rear seats folding down. You can also utilize the roof cargo rails and install a trailer hitch (which we have done) for added cargo space. The other main reason for choosing the SRX was due to its comfort level. At 6'5", I can continuously drive this vehicle for 5+ continuous hours without feeling discomfort. The SRX is the vehicle of choice for about 90% of my families driving for these reasons. The only real dislikes that I have regarding this vehicle is that the rear seat is pretty standard in regards to comfort. Additionally, the overhead space is sub optimal. Anyone over 6 feet tall would not feel comfortable for extended periods of time. However, these seats would be perfect for families with small children or infants.

This vehicle was bought in 2015 when my wife and I relocated to Georgia from California in order to pursue a new career opportunity for me in the pharmaceutical industry. Once we moved into our new home (and gained a lot more backyard space), we adopted a second dog. Since we are used to traveling with our first dog, we found that traveling long distances with both dogs as well as all of the luggage that we tote around was not very feasible and comfortable in our previous sedan. We purchased our Cadillac SRX shortly after our first road trip with both dogs and quickly planned our next trip. This trip would be to Savannah, Georgia and happened to be with my mother and father on their first visit to us from California. We easily made the slightly over three-hour trip to Savannah with everyone commenting on how comfortable they were on the trip. What makes this memory with my vehicle memorable was the fact that this was the first time that I had seen my parents since we had moved away from our friends and family the previous year. The weekend proved to be quite memorable and would not have been possible in our previous car.
As previously stated, the top benefits of this vehicle for me is the cargo storage volume as well as the comfort level for driver and passenger. In addition to those aspects, I would say that other benefits include the ability to pair and play audio from cell phones and other personal electronic devices. The rear seats lay down nearly flat creating a bed like space similar in space to a small pickup. I also enjoy being able to utilize the programmable controllers for my home garage door, personalize mirrors and seat positioning based on key fob identification, and the panoramic sunroof.... (more)

Another benefit of Cadillac is that they design the vehicle in a manner that is conducive to convenient basic maintenance. Changing oil, brake pads, etc. is very straight forward and access to required parts is easy. The drive is relatively smooth, and the engine has enough power to efficiently climb steep hills and conquer semi-rough terrain. Lastly, the gas mileage for this vehicle is very reasonable for a V6 at a consistent 21-23 mpg depending on highway/surface street habits.
The main con that I have previously detailed about the Cadillac SRX was the comfort level of the rear seat cushions and overhead space. The back seats are too vertical and do not provide a comfortable seat for extended drives of two or more hours. In addition, anyone taller than around six foot would practically be in contact with the roof. From a reliability standpoint, the only mechanical issue that I have experience, thus far through 78,000 miles, is the driver side wheel bearing. From a reliability standpoint, the only mechanical issue that I have experience, thus far through 78,000 miles, is the driver side wheel bearing. At around 68,000 miles, the car developed an audible whirl, similar to a helicopter that coincided with acceleration and deceleration. It got to the point where the noise was unbearable to continue driving, so the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic. The total cost of the repair was around $180 for the one bearing. While at the mechanic, it was discovered that the passenger front wheel bearing is also showing signs of excessive wear and tear and will need to be monitored, although the noise has not gotten noticeably worse in the last 10,000 miles.
2014 Cadillac SRX - Comfort & style.
The SRX is comfortable to ride in, especially on longer trips. The seats have several adjustments that you can customize to yourself. It has ample room, but is not an extremely large vehicle. It does will in inclement weather. It adapts to road conditions well. The windshield wipers automatically adjust to the conditions well also. There is ample cargo room and storage in the SRX. You are able to pack a cooler and still have room to pack your things. Passengers in the rear seats do not feel confined, as there is plenty of room.
Driving the SRX in the city can be a little difficult due to the size of the vehicle, however the back up camera and blind spot detectors are almost necessary features on a car today. The backup camera can become foggy or icy though, which can be an issue. These... (more)

Driving the SRX in the city can be a little difficult due to the size of the vehicle, however the back up camera and blind spot detectors are almost necessary features on a car today. The backup camera can become foggy or icy though, which can be an issue. These features make the vehicle easier to drive, especially in lots of traffic. The maintenance on the SRX can be a little daunting, due to the complex system of the vehicle. The oil life alert is a great feature. Also, the alert to let you know when the tire pressure is low is great. It has saved me a couple times when I had issues with my tires, before I started down the road.
The best trip my family had in the SRX was when we went to Ocean Shores. The vehicle handled great on the beach and we had a great time.

The moon roof/sun roof is great when the weather is nice. The heated seats and steering wheel are added bonuses when it is cold. The defrosters (rear and front) are the best I've seen when your windshield is icy. The SRX does not take long to heat up or cool down, which is a great feature when the weather is extreme. The rear seats can fold down and have a pass through feature, which makes is easier to haul some things. The rear seats have amble room, even for adults. The leather seats are classy and you can clean them easily, especially if you have children. It is easy to clean in between the front seats, due to the room in between them. The adjustable arm rest feature makes it more comfortable to travel in the SRX. The overall ride in the SRX is smooth and comfortable. The tire pressure alert has alerted me a couple times, which has saved me from being stranded on the road with a flat tire. It is invaluable. The feature that turns off the airbag in the passenger seat is great for safety, especially if you have older kids sitting in the front passenger seat.
The maintenance on the car needs to be done by professionals, due to the complex system in the vehicle. This can be difficult for some. The SRX requires more maintenance than my previous vehicle, which can cost more. The system alerts the vehicle provides are great, however some of them can be a distraction when you are driving. As the driver, it is hard not to depend on the blind spot detector and back up camera too much. The SRX can be too large in some instances, especially in city driving. In the city, the parking spots and streets are narrow. It can make driving the SRX impossible in some locations, which can be an issue if you don't know the area and what to expect. Turning the vehicle around can be a bit of a challenge due to it's size. In my city, U-turns are allowed at some lights, due to medians, however it can be difficult in the SRX. The gas mileage in the SRX is horrible, at only 16 mpg for a crossover! Overall, the SRX is costly to maintain and drive and it is extremely difficult to drive in the city. It is a costly vehicle to maintain and drive daily.
2012 Cadillac SRX - Love my Cadillac SRX
I love my Cadillac SRX. We were very particular on a few items we had to have on our car, and this had everything on our wish list. The vehicle is very comfortable, and allows us to adjust the seat automatically for each driver. The heated seats are very important for the cold winters, and the heated steering wheel heats quickly to allow for a gloves-free drive. The console is easy to navigate, and the options are vast. I love the ability to see how much life is left before the next oil change, and the tire pressure levels are very helpful in our variable temperature climate. The navigation system is fabulous. I purchased the XM radio subscription (we were given a 1 yr trial for free, which was nice). We added the traffic feature, and it works wonderfully with the large navigation scre... (more)

Many friends have commented on the nice large screen. Easy to see and maneuver. Along with the navigation, the screen is utilized for the backup camera. This is one of the best features, as it is really easy to see everything when I back up, and allows viewing around corners when the wheel is turned. This helps see cars coming down the street or from behind obstructed views. The car rides smoothly and there is plenty of room for the kids for long trips.
There was a large accident on a major freeway. Navigation notified me 3-5 miles ahead, and provided an option to select an alternate route. This saved us much needed time and we were able to get to our destination with little delay.

Navigation system is superior. Seats are spacious and comfortable. The vehicle gets up to speed quickly and has a great feature that allows for fuel savings on freeway driving.

Would love to have a third row and keep the vehicle in the mid size range. I would also appreciate heated seats in back row, for guests and kids.
