2005 Ford Escape - Reliable
The Ford Escape was purchased because of the cost of gas at the time. I had been driving a Ford Explorer, but it was getting costly to fill it up, so the Escape was purchased. Just a smaller version of what I had.
Historia
Very nice small SUV. Good power with V6. Handles like a car, taut but compliant suspension. Very maneuverable with tight turning radius. Bright fog lights. Comfortable and roomy for its small size. It's a lot of car for your money. The 2005 redesign looks much improved over previous model years. Cool wheels.
A Favor
I like the box styling and simple interior layout. The leather interior cleans up nicely. It drives like a car, but you feel like you're in a truck. The AWD is automatic and gave me no problems driving through several snowstorms. It's pretty compact and easy to park. Mechanics are familiar with them, so repairs are cheaper compared to other makes.
En Contra
Address the rust issues. It's everywhere on these vehicles. If you ignore the rust, you will have huge problems. The rear seats are a pain to fold down and back up. If I was buying a used Escape again, I would avoid 2005 models because of the known wheel well defect. If it's not fixed early, it can be a very expensive fix.
2010 Ford Escape - Dependable, roomy, and attractive SUV.
After 100,000 miles and regular maintenance, this SUV drives the same way it did when new. No major issues have arisen, making it the most reliable car I have ever owned. Its paint still retains its shine, and the leather seats are durable and easy to clean, front and back. No problems with anything electronic or engine-related. Cosmetically and internally, this is a great SUV for long trips, as well as city driving. The V6 engine gives it power.
Historia
Because of the moon roof, this is the best car to go driving along Pacific Coast Highway at sunset. The car's large windows, along with the open roof, make it almost like driving an convertible, but with more room.
A Favor
Reliable, great gas mileage -- up to 30 miles a gallon on long trips. City driving mileage is still good enough to make this a great choice for saving cash at the pump. It's also roomy inside, unlike newer SUVs. Plenty of room to load luggage or people with luggage for trips. Seat warmers and moon roof have been my favorite add-ons. Sync and satellite is also a major plus.
En Contra
The only issue I have had to fix more than once is the driver side sun visor where it attaches -- it has pulled out once or twice. Once it's popped back in, it's fine. The throttle body needing replacing after 100,000 miles as it was dirty and impacting gas mileage.

2007 Ford Escape Hybrid - Antelope Valley Ford Lancaster
Worked well with me to get me my first car! Very friendly people. Didn't feel taken advantage of (though I was with my parents)
