1999 Ford Focus - American Made
This car was a very good car during the first couple years I owned it. Gas always seemed to stretch further in my car than any other. For the first two years, I didn't have any problems starting the car, and it never left me stranded. There wasn't very much storage space, and often times I felt cramped. There was a strange noise that came from the engine area during the later years that I owned it. The gas and brakes were just perfect, being neither too touchy or not touchy enough. The steering was good enough for me. I have a weak shoulder, so its important steering be pretty easy on me. My friend, who had a very bad back, found the car to be as comfortable as I did. During its last years of life, however, I found the car was very expensive to maintain. It was always something new and... (more)

Either the people before me didn't maintain the car well at all, or its only a good car for so long.
I recall one time when I was taking my nephews to the zoo, in another state. I had actually set this up with their mother. She called in school for them, and it was a surprise from day one. We all piled in the Focus and took off on a long journey. There was some bad weather we drove through. The steering was very good, and the tires had excellent grip. I could hardly see because it was raining so hard. There wasn't any kind of a bad blind spot, but it makes me very nervous to drive on the high way when the weather is that bad. We made it to the zoo in once piece, and the boys fell asleep in the car on the way back. Its a very comfortable car. At the zoo, the boys were very happy not to be at school. We saw the polar bears ,the penguins, and the sharks. I think their favorite was the sharks. It was odd, I actually had an offer to sell the car leaving the zoo, but I didn't trust the man.
There was a lot of good to this car. It was initially bought for me to get back and forth to class, and around town. I live out in the country, so having a car was a need. I found that this car was very comfortable, and reliable. Even my good friend with a bad back was comfortable in my car, which was a big bonus because I spent a lot of time with her back when I was young. This car was most excellent on gas, as I would take it to events and outings with my friends. When we had to drive far away, everyone would vote to use my car since it was so good on gas and comfortable. I thought it ha... (more)

When we had to drive far away, everyone would vote to use my car since it was so good on gas and comfortable. I thought it handled pretty well. The steering wasn't too hard on my arms, and the petals weren't too sensitive. The interior held up pretty well, and so did the brakes. It was 2 years before I ever had to replace any part of the brakes. I was, overall, pleased with a lot about this car during its first few years.
After a couple years, I found this car seemed to fall apart at the seams. First of all, let me express to you how little space I found there to be. Grocery shopping was never fun, and although my car was good on gas - it had the space issue. So when my friends and I would go on road trips, we never had much room at all for our belongings. After about two or three years, it seemed like I was putting the car in the shop for something new almost every weekend. It got to the point where I was paying over 400 a month just to get the car fixed. I took really good car of the car when I had it, bu... (more)

It got to the point where I was paying over 400 a month just to get the car fixed. I took really good car of the car when I had it, but I'm not sure if the previous owners had taken care of the car. I didn't notice any blind spots that were too big, but there was a strange noise that came from the engine area starting on the second year I had the car. It performed okay, I suppose, but ultimately it was just too expensive in the end.
2009 Ford Focus - Won't buy another Ford
I am not happy with this car, and I often tell people I wish I could sell it and move on. Since buying it in 2014, I have had multiple issues and have had parts changed out quite a few times. My dealership didn't even tell me that my car came with remote start - but that's on them. The car shakes/vibrates a lot (with no fix), and sometimes feels like the tires are bouncy/shaky. The undercarriage is rusting, just like our previous Ford Focus did. The "get up and go" of this car is not impressive, and it is not too great in the snow, but it is a step up from the Honda Civic coupe I had before. I will be saving up and buying a Subaru next time. The car seems to hesitate a lot on hills, and during the winter months in Ohio I got stuck a few times and slid around a lot. Just not satisfied a... (more)

I had to go to a work related event in Canton, OH which is like an hour from my house. And I had to do it a couple days in a row, but my little Focus got me there and back. I enjoyed the drive in the Focus.

I like the Sirius XM feature, plus the fact that I can plug in my iPod via an auxiliary cord. Sometimes, when the car wants to, it does have some "get up and go". I like its tight steering, and I wouldn't even want to drive a car without it anymore.

A month after I bought this car, I had to change a motor mount. Which stopped the shaking for the most part, but I have had so many other issues with it. There have been times I left the dealership thinking it was fixed only to turn around and come right back and ask they really fixed it. Hate that it shakes/vibrates so much, and I hate that it seems to hesitate on hills. It runs rough when I have the air conditioning running. I have gotten the Focus stuck a few times in the winter, including on a hill up to my house. Had to be pushed out of that one!
