I love the flexibility of the interior space (the seats that fold down and up). I also love the size of it. I previously owned a Honda Fit. The HRV is basically a larger Fit. There are times when I wish we had just gotten the CRV instead (the HRV is smaller than the CRV). I often transport my son (in his car seat), my two large dogs, plus have another adult passenger in the front seat, and it's a bit of a squeeze. But the vast majority of the time, the HRV is perfect, because I'm just driving myself and my son around plus whatever other stuff we have, such as groceries or art supplies. For these times, it's perfect. The HRV drives well, although it certainly doesn't have any extra frills. I appreciate the standard back-up camera that's included, even with the most basic model which we purchased. The one thing I really wish I could change about it is having a more automatically opening hatch. There's a button on the key fob to unlock the hatch, but I wish the button caused the hatch to pop open. Instead you have to press the hatch unlock button and then still open the hatch with your hand. I'm often carrying an infant and groceries, and I find this annoying.
