Montgomery, AL Driving Tips
How to drive in Montgomery, Alabama. Plan your day according to the traffic, as it's congested and overly so at specific times throughout the door. This is normal for a city, but Montgomery is more spread-out than most, covering my area - as opposed to densely populated. To combat this, there are multiple locations for pretty much every store and business you require. There's no need to travel across the city in order to pick-up an item that can be acquired in closer proximity. Do research before-hand and see which location you'll be traveling to and select the appropriate route. If the location is near the interstate, you may save yourself some time driving to the next exit-or-two. Be aware that the exits feed onto the main streets with traffic lights, so it may be a while if you catch a red light. During the regular commute hours and during lunch-time the main roads are packed with vehicles. Traffic will move slowly as there's stop lights every quarter-mile or so.
Montgomery, AL Buying Tips
Buying a vehicle in Montgomery, Alabama is rather simple. There's not much to it. All the main manufactures have dealerships located on Eastern Boulevard. In one section in fact, they line one side of the street for about a mile. Anything you'd want. Chevrolet, Lexus, Toyota, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, etc. Being located in the same general area makes shopping for a new car simple. Personally, I'd stick to the dealerships and avoid craigslist. The area isn't the most friendly - a fair bit of crime.
Favorite driving memory
My favorite experience driving in Montgomery, Alabama would be the first time I entered the city limits. Originally from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, the South was a break from my comfort-zone. My wife and I engaged in a long-distance relationship for a time before I moved to Montgomery permanently. The atmosphere and terrain are different here in the city than back home. Scenery, and vegetation are dissimilar, traffic is more congested. A majority of the streets are nothing more than avenues lined with shopping plazas and strip malls. Some are new construction, some are derelict. The city of Montgomery lacks the prototypical tall buildings of a larger city. What makes driving into the city for the first time memorable would be that it's my new home. A new city, a new experience, a new place to call home.
Favorite road
Bell Road. There aren't many scenic destinations or special roads to drive in Montgomery. For the most part, the roads consist of either business-lined commercial addresses or neighborhoods and apartment complexes. As a result, you grow to appreciate the streets that offer more picturesque settings. One such road would be Bell Road. This route is short and will only take 5 minutes of your day, at most. Turn off the main Atlanta Highway onto Bell Road. You view will change from shopping plaza to the country. This is my favorite road because it has the closest resemblance to my home of Cape Cod. Vast green lawns leading to luxurious mansions and manors. Plenty of vegetation to be seen. It's a short trip back to what I'm accustomed to see on a daily basis at home.

Montgomery, AL Driving Tips
When you are driving on the highway, realize that cars merging into and off of the highway come in from both the left and right side of the road. Thus, the middle lane typically moves the fastest as the other two lanes must constantly merge people into and off of the highway. Keep that in mind and be courteous and allow others to merge into the flow of traffic.
Montgomery, AL Buying Tips
The largest majority of car dealerships are along Easter Highway that runs through town, exit #6 off of I-85. There are dealerships in either direction off of the exit, the closer ones are to the north while the ones to the south are a little farther away. They have dealers for every major brand of car along that stretch of road. I have never purchased a car in Montgomery, but I have had my car serviced at a dealership and have been happy with the results.
Favorite driving memory
I drove numerous times to meet my wife who lived in Montgomery when I lived in Florida. I always knew I was getting close when I hit the point where I-65 merged with I-85. It would only be a few exits along I-85 until I was pulling off and heading to her apartment. Reaching that turn-off from I-65 to I-85 meant I was almost home.
Favorite road
East Chase Parkway. Because there are numerous shops, restaurants, and activities along this stretch of road. Typically, this is a family outing where we can swing by the bookstore or pet shop, then grab a bite to eat for lunch or a snack, and then hit grocery shopping on the way home. A good way to knock out a bunch of errands quickly in one trip.
