I purchased a new 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek with the Premium package in November of 2013. The car is very roomy, with the capacity to transport five passengers. I have had no issues with the engine, brakes, or any other part of the car in the nearly two years that I have owned it. The XV Crosstrek is great for moving items from one place to another with its split-folding back row seating. It's a very enjoyable ride with its 2.0L 4-cylinder engine and symmetrical AWD, having enough power and handling to safely navigate at higher speeds and less than ideal road conditions. The XV Crosstrek offers 148 hp @6200 rpm, enough to make the car fun to drive and easy to accelerate. The antilock brakes function beautifully along with the electronic stability control. I don't have to worry about how... (more)
Historia
The XV Crosstrek has made trips to the beach so incredibly easy. The car came with both carpeted and rubber mats, so I use the rubber mats on trips where dirt or sand may be tracked inside. It's superbly convenient to hose the mats off and not worry about needing professional interior detailing after each trip. Even with the rear seats up, the luggage for a five-person day trip fits into the t... (more)
A Favor
The five star safety rating was one of the initial reasons that I looked at buying the car, and it held up incredibly well when I was rear-ended at 35 mph while stopped. The cargo hold is really nicely sized, and it's been a great help when assisting friends in moving or going on car trips where luggage is required.
En Contra
I don't find the rim design to be particularly attractive compared to that of Subaru's other vehicles. I don't find much that's negative about my car, nor do I regret the purchase in any way.

2014 Subaru Crosstrek - Compact utility....at a price!

The Subaru Crosstrek XV Hybrid is essentially an armored Impreza. It's a nimble small 5-door hatchback that has been raised to give it over 8 inches of ground clearance, and additional body clad molding to give it a ready-for-some light off-roading look and feel. The Hybrid Touring model I got is Subaru's first hybrid vehicle. It's a "mild hybrid" system, meaning that with a smaller battery that hides in the rear cargo area where the spare tire would normally be, the electric-motor assist provides only modest power when the vehicle starts. The car can run on electric power only for very short distances, and at very slow speeds...perhaps when you are driving around in the mall parking lot looking for a parking space. The added weight of the battery and extra body panels make the car fee... (more)
A Favor
The ride height is about 3 inches above a typical car, which increases visibility of traffic immensely. The four-wheel drive is an added safety feature that has prevented my car from slipping during severe rainstorms. Being a hatchback, there is a lot of storage space in the rear cargo area, despite being just a "compact car", which expands by folding the rear seats down. The hybrid system enhances MPG by about 3 miles per gallon compared to the conventional Crosstrek or Impreza. I am getting about 30MPG or about 360 miles per fill-up, in mixed city and highway driving. The driving feel of... (more)
En Contra
The Hybrid is about $4000 more than a regular Crosstrek, and you only get about 3mpg in improvement...not really a great deal. My fully loaded Touring model cost $31K out-the door. At that price, you can get a fully loaded Prius, or Accord Hybrid or Camry Hybrid, all of which get much better MPG and interior space (but no all-wheel-drive). Because of the added weight of the batteries, there is no spare tire (just a can of tire repair spray). Acceleration is very slow...maybe around 11 seconds from 0 to 60, so getting onto the highway is somewhat stressful.
