Suzuki Esteem--a real dream
I purchased my Suzuki Esteem as a pre-model with only about 5,000 miles on the car. It has been one of the best cars I have ever owned. Not only do I get good gas mileage for an older car, about 30 miles to the gallon, but the car is well made, handles easily, and I have not really had any engine problems in almost 20 years. The car is compact with a great turning radius, yet it is a wagon and has a lot of storage room. The rear seat is a split version and both can be dropped to add space to the hatchback cargo area. I am able to store my bicycle for easy travel and if I put the passenger seat down as well, I can slide my sit-a-top kayak in for travel. The car has a roof rack but I find the cargo area easier. I have never had any real wear or rot on the vehicle until this past year when the support bar between the two front wheels rotted. I think the part was called a "K-Bar" and I find out that a lot of the models from the same year had the exact same problem but that there was never a recall. Unfortunately Suzuki is now out of business so my only alternative was to find a used part online and have that installed, which I did. I don't know how much longer the body will hold up as I live on Cape Cod and the salt air does a job on cars, but the engine runs like a top and I can only pray it holds on for me for a few more years.

it works
I bought the car because it seemed like a nice light, small car for while I am in college. It has been pretty reliable, but it has some issues. My car does have over 160000 miles on it and it is still going strong. I have had the car for over two years now and I am still enjoying it enough to keep it, but if I had the option I would not purchase this car again in the future.

The Suzuki esteem is a sadly made car. The engine needs more, the car falls apart. I don't ever see another one while I am driving and I can understand why.
The overall performance of the car is not that bad. For a bucket of bolts that gets good gas mileage the car isn't bad for let's say a first timer.
