2000 Toyota Camry - Reliable car that will last you many years.
I am really happy to have purchased this car. I have owned it for over a decade, and aside from routine maintenance and wear and tear, have had to do minimal repairs to keep it operating well. The car gets solid gas mileage, steers well, brakes quickly, has an engine that runs smoothly and reliably, and will last a long time if taken care of. When repairs are needed, parts are easy to come by because Toyota Camrys are such a common car model, so it isn't difficult or expensive to fix it as needed. Aside from performing well, the car is sleek and pretty, which makes it live past the stigma of being a car that's only for older, more practically minded people. For the amount of money it costs, the Camry is probably the best value car on the market, both for immediate use, and long term pe... (more)
Historia
I've driven this car back and forth from college, from Texas to New Jersey and back, multiple times, and it's held up well across a variety of seasons, ranging from a sweltering summer in the south, to a freezing and snowing east coast winter. All that time, I was driving with the passenger and back seats absolutely stuffed with my personal belongings, including a large gaming computer and sou... (more)
A Favor
Generally everything. It is an affordable car that provides solid comfort and performance, even if not at a luxury or sports car level. V6 Engine runs well and will last an extremely long time if taken care of. Transmission, power steering, suspension, etc. also hold up well. When minor repairs are needed, it is very easy to find after cheap market parts because the car is so popular. Great blend of performance and style.
En Contra
For long time owners, you will have to eventually replace the timing belt, which can be an expensive repair if you don't budget and anticipate it. Also, Toyota Camrys of that era are known to have electrical systems deteriorate over time, so that's something you have to consider. However, these are both routine maintenance aspects that will only come up if you keep the car an unusually long amount of time, so I wouldn't consider these as exceptional flaws.
2001 Toyota Camry - Pretty good.
The windshield has a 1,001 micro-pits in it, but then it has over 200k miles on it and is about 17 years old now.
It comfortably seats 4, but the weight limit seems a bit low [about 900 LBS or so]. Some people I have in the car are very heavy and I'm concerned about the stress it puts on the vehicle.
Its a bit too noisy, but at least its a lot better than the corolla I had immediately before it.
It gets around 22mpg and has surprisingly good acceleration for a 4 cylinder job.

I have a cat that gets separation anxiety pretty easily. I found out that if I don't let him know that I'm leaving for a while, he runs around the house yowling for me and drives anybody that's home crazy.
One day I was driving around town in my Toyota Camry running errands and I didn't say goodbye to my cat Alex, which caused him a great amount of distress, and consequently, prompted my wif... (more)
A Favor
I liked the color (forest green, one of my favorites). The quality of the drive train has been excellent so far. It has about 230,000 miles on it and the engine and transmission are still in fairly good shape. It doesn't burn any extra oil and I haven't done any work on the transmission either, but it runs pretty good still. Changing the oil is really nice because the oil filter is right on the front of the engine, is easily and quickly accessible and its upside down, so there's no oil mess. Even though the car only has a 4 cylinder engine, the A/C works really great.
En Contra
Although the overall paint quality is good on the sides when I bought it, the hood, roof and trunk lid were all peeling because the clear coat had worn out. I ended up sanding the hood down to the bare metal myself and put on 3 coats of rust oleum primer. When I get a chance, I'll put the original paint back on and then a new coat of clear coat.
The cup holders in the back are too old-school and too shallow for today's big drinks, causing them to spill.
The maximum carrying capacity is too low.
The seats seem to be a fairly uncomfortable, [unlike Jeep seats which are really nice]. Th... (more)

This dealership really did it for me with the lack of hassle. While reviewing contracts and deals was as annoying as it can be anywhere one go through the process of buying a car, our dealer, Carl, was very informative, to the point, and never misleading on the attributes or issues of the camry. He made the process of buying a used car bearable.
