Luxury SUV that lacks quality
My experience with Volvo vehicles, including most recently the XC90, has left me disappointed. Generally, I like the style and design of the vehicles. Performance and handling were also good. However, quality issues (electrical failures, mechanical failures, etc.) left me not trusting the vehicle long term.

Amazing all weather and all terrain vehicle
There are so many things I love about the Volvo XC90. There is plenty of room for 7 passengers and with a young child who likes to have play dates, extra seats are always a bonus. There is plenty of cargo space when the 3rd row seating is not in use. I can fit a large dog crate plus two dogs and the human's luggage in the rear. The most amazing feature to me though is the AWD. I grew up in a warm climate but now live in an area that regularly receives snow in the winter. I am naturally a bit nervous driving in those conditions but the Volvo doesn't miss a beat. The AWD is automatic and there is a winter weather mode that lowers the torque and makes for a steady ride in less than ideal conditions. I now have over 100,000 miles on the vehicle and have never had any major maintenance issues with big ticket items like engine or transmission.

Decent family car
Purchased this vehicle from a family friend a few years ago. This SUV can take a beating! I travel often for work, just recently I made the 10-hour commute to Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, with a coworker. At first I was worried we wouldn't have enough room to pack her stuff and mine in the trunk of my car. I was pleasantly wrong. The trunk space is definitely desirable. The SUV drives like a luxury car; it's quiet and smooth. However, at times, it feels like I'm driving a bus whenever I'm making a sharp turn. It feels like it's floating. Nothing alarming, but it does take some time to get used to. One major drawback is the backseat. This SUV is designed for small children to fit in the back. My husband is 6'4", and whenever he is driving, no one can sit behind his seat since he has to move the seat all the way back. Fortunately, this vehicle has third-row seating, so whenever we do travel, my teenage son usually just sits all the way in the back, and we just throw everything we're taking with us in the back seat. Since this is a 2008 model, don't expect all the bells and whistles you'll get with a newer vehicle; however, don't count this SUV out either. The safety features alone are worth the consideration. Because of this vehicle, I believe I will be Volvo for life!
