I'd have to say this vehicle is in the golden age of the Explorer. It's and exceptional vehicle, if I hadn't been told it was a V6 I never would've guessed as the it has enough power to do some good four-wheeling. Getting into 4x4 mode is incredibly simple, just turn the nob to 4-high or 4-low and there you have it. The automatic 4x4 works very well, it comes on when you need it. I bought this vehicle when it had about 90,000-miles on it and only had to have a little bit of work done. It does have some issues with rattling and noise from better all terrain tires (if you have them). I've also had trouble with the rear window wiper, it works intermittently and nobody can find a cause or a fix. But, I've had vehicles with much worse problems. Off road this vehicle will get out anywhere that has rough four-wheel drive roads as long as nothing is too extreme. It really surprised me the first time I took it hunting and it proved itself as a highly effective off-road vehicle.
