I own a five-speed manual transmission Focus Sedan. Whilst definitely a compact car, the Focus comfortably and safely seats two adults and two small children in car seats. It has a lot of pep and is fun to drive. Also, the stereo system on the car is fabulous! It will really crank out the sound without the words getting lost.
Story
I locked my keys in the trunk. I had to take out both car seats and have a child climb through the trunk in order to retrieve the keys. It was so embarrassing.
Pros
I love driving a manual. The Focus transmission is quick, and the car has a lot of pep for a four cylinder. The dash controls are fairly easy to find and use. Also, the car is new enough to have the LATCH system that makes car seat installation a breeze. The trunk is large enough to hold a stroller.
Cons
My model does not have rear electric windows nor does it have power locks. It's very weird. The only way to lock the car with the key fob. If rear-facing two car seats, it is difficult to carry two tall adults in the front of the car, as the seats can only go back so far. The biggest dash control that I find hard to use are the blinkers. There is not a neutral position to turn them off. You have to turn on the opposite turn signal to turn off the signal. It's just odd.

The Focus is a mixed bag. It's relatively efficient, safe, and fun to drive. But its build quality is lacking in areas and the transmission has caused Ford more than a few headaches. The hatchback is roomy for both cargo as well as passengers, though cramming in five people is a bit of a crunch. The interior components feel cheap and plasticky, even on the Titanium trim. Even with all of it's flaws, it's still a fun car to drive and a somewhat efficient commuter vehicle.
Story
This is a great car for commutes. It's a blast in moderate traffic, and easily outmaneuvers cumbersome SUVs and other road obstacles!
Pros
This car gets pretty decent gas mileage, especially on the highway. Like most cars, it doesn't live up to the rated mileage, but it comes close. This car is also fun to drive, with very responsive handling and cornering. It almost feels like a go-kart, but in a good way. This car has a very high safety rating as well, especially for side-impact crashes. The leather seats on the Titanium are pretty nice, even if the rest of the trim isn't that great.
Cons
The build quality isn't great. The car has rattles and squeaks when driving that seem like they could be prevented with a small amount of design attention from Ford. The noises necessitated several visits to the dealer service center, but have only partially been fixed by them. The transmission has problems, but Ford has a solution that a dealer service technician can install. The headliner (ceiling) also has a replacement through Ford.
