The 1999 Toyota Corolla was made slightly more compact than previous models. Although it feels more like driving a Tercel, the overall performance and the ability of this vehicle to stand the test of time is well worth its draw backs. This vehicle has decent power for the engine size and the automatic transmission has performed responsively. Braking and handling in all weather felt very safe. The seats are standard and nothing special but give decent comfort. Trunk storage was enhanced by the fold down rear sears which allowed more space to carry long items.

The car is plenty fun. The turbo gives the power and torque that you want in a small sports car. The hatch is great for carrying cargo when needed. I have driven nearly 90,000 miles and no issues with the car have come up so far. I expect it to go another 90,000. The gas mileage is also great. I can get 35 MPG if I drive conservatively, but who does that in a car like this? I commute with this car every day and comfort is decent, but I would not like to take it on a long trip. I did drive this three hours to a vacation weekend, and it was not comfortable enough for that. I do regularly drive one to two hours, and it's not bad. The seats practically hug you, and it's great on tight turns. I did have to replace the tires for the winter. New England winters can be rough and snow tires were needed. After those were added though, I couldn't make the car slide if I tried. I would have preferred a little more power, but I can't really complain about 250HP in a relatively light car. I never really feel like I am dragging. I also love the 1.5 turn lock to lock on the steering wheel. I also like how the car looks. I still look at it six years later and smile.
