I've owned two Ford Rangers, one was black and the other was a golden color with some modifications made to the trunk. I bought both insanely cheap (one only costing a measly $400 off the side of a road) and the other was more substantial but still very much cheaper. Being as I travel to Canada a lot, its saved my butt a few times as well. The switchable 4x4 option really helped me out of a bind when the snow had gotten so deep that it was above the tire rims. Sadly, my black Ranger was set on fire when I visited Toronto once - so I had to strip the insides. However, the truck is so common that it isn't hard to find parts at all in a junkyard or something.
Pros
-Switchable 4x4 Drive -Solid little truck -Usually pretty cheap -Easy to find replacement parts
Cons
-Passenger area is a bit tight -Transmission is somewhat prone to going out if too much strain is put on it over the years

2000 Ford Ranger - Good truck, just not good enough

I liked that the Ford Ranger was very reliable. It got me to and from college in Las Cruces to my hometown of Albuquerque for 4 years. It didn't have many problems but when it did the problems were very devastating. It also was nice to have in order to haul things to and from.
Story
One memorable thing about having the Ford Ranger is the ability to go offroading every once in awhile just to see scenic parts of the local area.
Pros
My favorite feature for this vehicle was the fact that it came with a toolbox in the truck bed. It allowed me to have extra storage for the things that were too small to leave in the bed of the truck.
Cons
I had to constantly keep repairing it. An example would be when I first bought the truck I had to replace the alternator. The problems just escalated from there. I constantly had to replace major parts in the car such as the radiator, spark plugs, fuel filter, etc. Overall it was very expensive to maintain.
