The Ford Taurus from this era remains a popular car for a reason. A four-door sedan, it's spacious, comfortable, and provides a smooth ride. The rear seat folds down for extra storage, there are clips for baby seats, and the radio quality is pretty good. The SES model I got came with a little more kick to the V6 engine, so it was slightly less efficient than comparable Taurus's or competitors. Still, I appreciated having the option of a bit more acceleration. It comes with a spare tire, but it's only a donut, not full sized.
Story
I've taken this car on thousands of miles of road trips with 2-4 friends each. We could all easily switch out for driving duties, and fit everything from luggage, to coolers, to guitars and amps in the back. Considering all it's been through, it's held up quite well.
Pros
The trunk is incredibly roomy. I'm talking ridiculously so. Everyone who has ever looked inside for the first time has commented on their surprise. I guess that makes sense, considering how there were station wagon options. For the sedan, though, you definitely benefit. As I said before, I like the acceleration of the SES model. The ride is also smooth, and the car sounds strike the right balance between not too loud, and not put-you-to-sleep quiet. I really like having a fold down armrest for the driver's seat. I enjoy how spacious the cabin is. I'm fairly tall, so that's a must.
Cons
I have had a internal door panels on the front slip off, and they had to be re-glued. The fuel mileage isn't the best. The cruise control cable has given out, and despite being a cheap part, is a bit of a pain to have fixed.

I'll put it this way: The reason I had a 2004 Ford Taurus to review was because of this old war horse, my very first car, the 1994 Taurus. I got this car when I was a teenager, shortly after getting my license. Even back then it was a cheap buy. With over 100k miles on it to start, you wouldn't think it would be the most dependable vehicle, but it was able to put up with most of the abuses a young dumb kid could throw at it and keep rolling.
Story
Like I said, I was a young dumb teenager when I had this car. One day, I misjudged a corner severely and went into a ditch pretty hard. The car not only protected me, but it actually managed to keep on running despite a beat up oil pan, and taking a pretty hefty side impact. That was a real wakeup call for me, and the fact that both the car and I made it through that incident is why when it ca... (more)
Pros
The stock speakers were surprisingly good for a mid range vehicle from that era. Spare parts were plentiful and cheap. It was safe (more on that later.)
Cons
Like any older late model sedan, you can expect some problems. One of the headlights filled with water and needed to be resealed. The car could get out of alignment fairly easily.
