1999 Ford Ranger - Economical truck but no guts really

I have manual transmission. Also, the truck I have is basic model no extras at all. Getting on freeway is not as easy as with other vehicles. This truck does not get up to speed quickly. Does not have a lot of power, but then again, I only have 2.5 L engine, and the truck is almost 20 years old. Just now at 98,000 miles, it has started dying after accelerating and then slowing down. There also does seem to be something wrong going on with it because often windshield wipers come on for no reason and door ajar light and overhead light for no reason.
Story
I live near Sacramento, CA, and we have used this truck to sit and watch fireworks in the bed and on the tailgate when down. And it has come in handy when moving. I have even hauled some very heavy refrigerators.
Pros
Fairly good on gas. Economical little work truck. Small enough easy to drive. The fact that it is a truck is its best feature, besides the gas mileage.
Cons
Doesn't accelerate too quickly. After 98,000 miles, it started to cut out and die suddenly--could be dangerous. Only seats two comfortably with stick shift in the way.

2008 Ford Ranger - Solid engine, lacks overall quality.

Overall the Ford Ranger is a solid pickup. It is one of the few small trucks that you can buy in America. The truck is no-frills, but it can get jobs done. The insides are minimal, but nothing feels too cheap. The engine is solid and not too under powered. It is not a truck that you want to get if you are interested in the latest features or gas mileage. However, it is an awesome vehicle for transporting goods. I have driven across the country twice with hundreds of pounds of materials and have not had any issues.
Story
Often I've been surrounded by huge trucks that can't even hold as much stuff as this little truck (because their beds are too small).
Pros
The seats in the truck are very comfortable. Even though they are hard, they are way better than the soft seats that you sink into. I really like how you can just wash the floor without having to take out any foot mats.
Cons
I am a techie, so this truck disappoints in the technology department. There is not even a CD player or AUX jack. Also, I have had issues with the rear axle leaking. Eventually I had to get it replaced (before 50k miles).
