Fort Myers, FL Driving Tips
Be careful! In Florida there are always crazy drivers. Especially when everyone is trying to come home from work. Everyone is in such a rush to get home, they get impatient and make stupid moves when driving. There are almost always accidents occurring around 4-6.
Fort Myers, FL Buying Tips
When buying a car in this city, look around your neighborhood. That is always the best place to find great cars for a great price. Before going to a dealership and spending all your money on car, and paying interest and all that garbage, drive around the area. People are always selling used cars in pristine condition.
Favorite driving memory
It was raining outside and it was my husbands 3rd time driving. We're young, and he just got his license. So we were going to take a trip to a huge mall that was about 30 minutes away. When we left it was a beautiful and sunny day. Out of nowhere it just gets dark and gloomy, and rain starts pouring down so hard that you wouldn't believe. So I reminded my husband to be careful and drive slower since the road would be slippery. He doesn't really like getting told what to do when he "thinks" he already knows what he's doing. So of course he ends up going to fast, and we're coming to a stop light. There's a mini van in front of us and I say to myself "if there is a soccer mom with a bunch of kids in that car and he hits the back of it, we are SCREWED." So as I'm cursing under my breath and he has a panicked look on his face, the car slow down just enough for it to lightly but somewhat forcefully bump the back of the mini van. I'm thinking at this point, we're done for. I see the drivers side door open, and I'm terrified. We JUST bought and paid for this car, we had no money left over to pay any type of bill if he left even the tiniest dent on the van. He jumps out of his seat and goes out in the pouring rain to see if he dd any damage. Meanwhile, a frail little od woman steps out of the car, goes to look at the bumper, and looks at my husband. He does not know what to do, he's never been in this situation before. So he is just apologizing over and over again. She shakes her head, walks back to the drivers seat door, opens it, and waves us on. Meanwhile my husband is still standing outside in the lashing rain in disbelief. He comes back in the car and I said "Well what's the damage?" He told me that there was nothing wrong, he didn't even leave a mark. The look on his face was priceless. He looked like he got into a major accident and injured a whole family! That was just the first and one of the mildest incidents that occurred when driving down Lee Blvd!
Favorite road
Lee Blvd.. Lee Blvd. Is my favorite road to drive because even though it just seems like a long straight road into shopping centers, this is probably the road where I have ever seen the most action while driving. Someone is always doing something crazy or driving like a lunatic and even though many people hate that road because of it, I happen to like it. It makes my commute to work everyday bearable when I see yet another driver entertaining me with their stupidity.

Fort Myers, FL Driving Tips
Avoid McGregor between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. At least north of the Cape Coral Bridge. It is a HIGHLY congested road, for it offers one lane. Also, U.S. 41/Tamiami Trail is pretty bad so only take if completely necessary. You can access U.S. 41/Tamiami Trail throughout Summerlin and McGregor. Do not take U.S. 41 To get to Naples/Bonita, take I-75, it is much faster, and people drive crazy on U.S. 41. Always be alert because people are always in a hurry around these parts as well.
Fort Myers, FL Buying Tips
U.S. 41/Tamiami Trail offers pretty much any car dealership you could think of. Cape Coral, offer Fucillo Kia which is the most popular (because it is the largest dealership in both Cape Coral and Fort Myers). The owner, Billy Fucillo, who is known as the "HUGE" guy, is always offering specials. He gives away flat screen T.V.S, cruise getaways, and even sometimes cash rewards. Another area with a few dealerships would be Fowler and Colonial Blvd. Here you will find Toyota and Hyundai O'Brien. A littler further down and you will find CarMax. For luxury vehicles (Audi, Lexus, BMW, etc.) you should look more on U.S. 41 South of Gladiolus. A few are north of Gladiolus. Craigslist is sometimes used as well, but I think in Fort Myers, people are more likely to trade in their used cars at a dealership.
Favorite driving memory
Typically people speed in most areas of Fort Myers. I am prone to speeding myself on occasion. One time, I was driving on Summerlin, which, the speed limit varies between 45 and 55 mph. The area I was in happened to be a 45 mph-zone. I was headed north going about 60 MPH. I was so scared when suddenly a Lee County Sheriff began to come up on my tail. Then suddenly, he got AROUND me, and pulled IN FRONT of me. I thought it was hilarious because only in Fort Myers do police officers not pull you over for speeding, but instead, feel you are going not fast enough ! A similar situation happened when a friend and I were going 80 MPH on US 41 (a 45 MPH limit) and sped past TWO squad cars, and they didn't pull us over !
Favorite road
Summerlin. Summerlin is my favorite road to drive on in Fort Myers because it provides such a nice drive. At its most-likely-to-be-congested zones, it offers 4 lanes. I love this because it literally NEVER gets congested ! At it's less busier zones, it provides 2-3 lanes which is plenty. In recent years, the city has installed 2 different overpasses to help reduce traffic also, and it has definitely helped ! There are also not many lights on Summerlin and where there are lights, they are usually green, or quick to turn green. It's definitely one of the best roads to drive on in these parts. It stretches through quite a bit of Fort Myers, too. And provides easy access to US 41 along the way. There are also quite a bit of information signs (for Hospitals, Schools, and Beaches) for tourists.
