I had heard that Honda Civics were very reliable but after leasing one for three years I was very impressed. The car required absolutely no maintenance (other than oil changes and tire rotations) in that three years. I would often forget the last time I filled up on gas because the mileage was so good.
Story
My most fun memories with this car were of loading up the trunk and going on road trips to nearby cities (Toronto, Cleveland, Pittsburgh) with a friend or two.
Pros
My favorite things about the Honda Civic were the reliability and the great gas mileage. I was able to just drive and not worry about needing costly maintenance.
Cons
The most negative thing about the car was the performance in bad weather. I live in an area which gets lots of snow in the winter and I got stuck pretty often.

2008 Honda Civic - Bigger interior then you would think.

Great gas mileage. I think the performance is awesome for a car in its class. It picks up nicely and feels like a drivers car. The interior is roomy, not at all cramped. I have put a lot of stuff in the car and was amazed at how well it fit. The back row of seats actually fold down and there is like a little door that opens from the inside of the trunk to the interior of the car. I have actually transported a 6' ladder by placing it into the trunk and through the opening, over the folded down seats, and in between the two front seats. It has a full compliment of air bags, plenty of head room, and the drivers seat is adjustable to go up or down. The cloth interior and carpeting is still holding up after 9 years with tears or signs of wear. The only con that I can really come up with wou... (more)
Story
I'm a cheapskate and really wanted to find a 6' wooden ladder at the lowest possible price. I finally found one at a second hand store and bought it without thinking how I would get it into the car. I went out into the parking lot and looked at the car doubtfully. After folding down the trunk door and back seats I was absolute thrilled that the ladder could fit in such a small car without a pr... (more)
Pros
I like the way the car drives. I was impressed and still am nine years later with the pick up. When I was shopping for a new car I test drove several other makes in the same class and with some of them I honestly felt like I was riding a lawn mower, very rough ride, engine bogged down and it just wouldn't get out or it's own way. However, when I test drove the Civic everything was different when it comes to that. The pick up was great, the engine did not bog down at all, but ran very smoothly. I felt like this was a drivers car and so I bought it.
Cons
The car doesn't seem to be too air tight when it comes to letting the cold in. If it is parked outside on a cold winter day the car is really cold inside and when you go to drive it the cold air rushes in. You will definitely be cold until the heat can catch up with warming the air inside the car enough to over come the cold. I've never experienced this with any of the cars that I had previously owned. My first winter with this car having been parked outside I actually bought a heater that you would plug into the dash to give an initial blast of heat just to take the edge off of the cold. ... I bought my car through their dealership, I picked it out online, got an email from one of their representatives and took it from there. Everyone was really nice, professional and understanding of my situation. The place is immaculate and appears to be very well-managed. I was pleasantly surprised to have gotten the car at such a good price, with no strings attached. Compared to other dealerships I've been there upselling of extra stuff is about par or even less, which is a good thing. Paperwork, registration, and insurance are handled efficiently and quickly. The car was thoroughly cleaned and overall I had a great experience with the dealership.
