The Sentra is an economy car (except the SE-R trim level, which is a street racer), but it doesn't live up to one's expectations of a Japanese economy car. Yes, it's pretty well designed, but the reliability I expected just isn't there. I used to drive a Sunfire, and it got mileage almost as good but with a lot more pep.
Pros
The controls are well-placed; you can reach most everything without leaning. The mileage is good, when everything's in working order It's decent looking It's well-designed, space wise. Good size trunk for such a small car.
Cons
CONSTANT check engine light problems Regular breakdowns Expensive repairs Difficult to change headlight bulbs Extremely poor acceleration Nissan problem - coolant leaking into cylinders causing failure to start.

Overall, I like this car. It has been reliable with only two substantial repairs through 94,000 miles. Otherwise, it's been perfect. It's comfortable. It has had amazing gas mileage. The engine is quiet. The ride is smooth. It drives well in rain and snow, but I have had some other issues with its ability to handle cold and snowy weather. I would buy this car again, but only if I didn't live somewhere that dips below freezing often.
Story
I really loved driving this car in the snow in upstate New York. The windshield is wide enough to really see the snow and landscape, and it's quiet and safe, so driving in the snow was very enjoyable.
Pros
I love the CVT transmission -- the car is powerful enough for the CVT to get my immediate acceleration up to confidently make quick merges, lane changes, turns in front of oncoming traffic, etc. But it's not a super-powerful gas guzzler, either. It's great to have power behind your acceleration when you need it and to have fuel efficiency the rest of the time. Up until a couple of years ago, I used to typically get 35-39 MPG on highway trips. I find the seats are quite comfortable for cars in this price range. The seats are supportive and wide enough for my needs. The leg room and trunk sp... (more)
Cons
I often have a very difficult time pulling out of a parallel parking space in the snow in this car, even after shoveling. It's almost like the underside gets stuck on snow, even after I've cleared all the snow I can see. It's weird. It's also got a poor turn radius, which makes parallel parking more difficult than in other cars I've driven. It's still doable, but tighter spots for those who don't parallel park often might be problematic.

The salesman was very patient and accommodating. I was able to test drive as many cars as I wanted and the specs that I was looking for in my ideal car, as odd as they may seem, were never to bothersome to the salesman. Also, the financing office went to great lengths to make sure I could have both a car at a reasonable rate and the ability to pay my bills.

The owners help you as if they were just regular salesmen. They care about the customers. I described what I wanted, which was different than what I purchased, but the guy knew what car was easier on the price and I was happier with it than I would have been with my original purchase, which they would have made more money from. They are nice, attentive and don't seem like "run of the mill just trying to sell you anything" car dealers. My family only goes here when we need new cars.
