I wanted a car that looked good, had great performance, plentiful features, and was reasonably dependable. The 2006 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE fulfills all of those needs and has been a great car during the 5 years I've owned it. It's a great alternative from other bland cars in the midsize sedan segment, such as the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord. I wouldn't say it's the perfect vehicle, but the pros far outweigh the cons.
Story
Test driving it for the first time, I knew that this was the car I was going to buy.
Pros
The 3.5 liter 250 horsepower engine is probably the best thing about this car. It provides adequate power for overtaking on the highway and has been very mechanically-sound for over 100,000+ miles. Premium fuel is preferred for this 3.5 liter engine. Lower trims for this car have a 2.5 liter engine that has less power and accepts regular gas. The styling is also very tasteful, but not boring. The side profile and rear-end have unique lines. Other features, like the optional navigation system, heated seats/mirrors, satellite radio, and Xenon headlights are all great inclusions. Lastly, th... (more)
Cons
The driver and passenger floor is prone to rust, so I'd suggest rust-proofing it. This is especially important if you live in colder climates where the roads are salted. The door locks aren't well engineered and I've had to have one of the locks replaced because the door wouldn't open. Fuel economy isn't the best in this class.

Overall, I am very pleased with the 2005 Nissan Altima, and I will be very interested in purchasing another Nissan vehicle when the time comes. It also stands the test of time and still looks like a relatively new vehicle after over ten years on the road.
Story
This car was purchased by my father as my first car. I lived on Long Island at the time and would regularly drive it along beach roads. I always loved driving down the road with friends in the car with the windows down and blasting music. It is a car that while safe for younger drivers still had a cool look that was fun to drive.
Pros
I first purchased a Nissan Altima because of its sleek style, even though it is a four-door sedan. It also has a great safety rating. Now that the car is 12 years old, I am pleased that there have been very few purchases to upkeep the vehicle over the years. It has about 80,000 miles on it, and it is going strong and still has great mileage. The interior also has kept up well, and the leather seats are durable and have taken a beating over the years without tearing.
Cons
I have had one instance where major work has been done. I have also had to have the rotors fixed on two occasions, partly because there is no sensor that tells the driver when the brakes need to be replaced. There is also rust stains that have developed behind and above the passenger rear tire. I have noticed this on multiple vehicles of the same make/model.
