I wanted a car that looked good, had great performance, plentiful features, and was reasonably dependable. The 2006 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE fulfills all of those needs and has been a great car during the 5 years I've owned it. It's a great alternative from other bland cars in the midsize sedan segment, such as the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord. I wouldn't say it's the perfect vehicle, but the pros far outweigh the cons.
Story
Test driving it for the first time, I knew that this was the car I was going to buy.
Pros
The 3.5 liter 250 horsepower engine is probably the best thing about this car. It provides adequate power for overtaking on the highway and has been very mechanically-sound for over 100,000+ miles. Premium fuel is preferred for this 3.5 liter engine. Lower trims for this car have a 2.5 liter engine that has less power and accepts regular gas. The styling is also very tasteful, but not boring. The side profile and rear-end have unique lines. Other features, like the optional navigation system, heated seats/mirrors, satellite radio, and Xenon headlights are all great inclusions. Lastly, th... (more)
Cons
The driver and passenger floor is prone to rust, so I'd suggest rust-proofing it. This is especially important if you live in colder climates where the roads are salted. The door locks aren't well engineered and I've had to have one of the locks replaced because the door wouldn't open. Fuel economy isn't the best in this class.

The vehicle runs, but I've had numerous problems with quite a few things. It's possible the previous owner did not treat the car right, but I also have a close friend with the same year, make and model Altima. He's had quite a few problems, mainly with transmission. After a quite quick Google search, I found out the problem I have with the engine misfiring and with the car starting only after turning the key a few times, is actually an extremely common problem with the cars. The exterior has kept a decent condition, I've had no problems with the build at least, but I also have no air conditioning as my compressor is broken, and my engine temp gauge jumps all the way up then back to the middle a few times every drive.
Story
I've been able to bring my ten-month old daughter safely to the park, beaches and family residences.
Pros
The exterior has stayed in very good shape, and the seats are moderately comfortable. I also have room for my two rear-facing car seats in the backseat. Although it took a lot of work to fit it in, I've also fit a plastic toddler bed completely inside the backseat and the mattress in the front seat.
Cons
I have quite a few mechanical problems with the transmission, the compressor, and the engine temperature (gauge). In the half a year I've had this car, I've also had to get my front axle completely replaced. Apparently it is a very common problem. The car takes a few tries to start it. If it has been shut off for 10 minutes–a couple of hours and I try to start it up again, I have to try to start it a couple of times until it starts again.

The customer service we received was above and beyond. Our agent was great. He assisted us when we needed help but stepped back and let us browse with no pressure to purchase. Not something you find often at a car dealership now a days. You usually barely get your foot out of the car before the agents are attacking you like a vulture. The dealership was fast and efficient in the whole process from test driving to pulling off the lot with our new vehicle.

The salesman was friendly (well, I guess they usually are when they want to sell you something), but above all, he was not pushy!. Financing was easy even though my credit score was only 580.,, But the rate was higher than I would have liked...Try to improve your credit score if you can. But I need a car, didn't have great credit and I left with one. Now on my way to rebuild my credit thanks to this car loan.
