2010 Hyundai Accent - Reliable, but disappointing gas mileage for the size and class.

The 2010 Hyundai Accent is overall, a good example of what a sub-compact car should be. The interior feels roomier than the exterior would lead one to expect, the space is well designed with convenient pockets, cup holders, etc., and for the age and class of car the audio system is adequate. I particularly appreciate that this vehicle has two 12V sockets, which is very useful considering how many portable electronic devices I use/charge while driving, as well as a USB port and an aux port. The software of the USB port is wonky however, you cannot set it to a "charge only" mode, it will immediately try to play audio files from whatever device is plugged in. This is annoying to me, I wish there was a way to change the settings so the port would let you chose to "read" the device, or "cha... (more)
Story
I live in NM, and in the summer the A/C runs full blast almost all the time. I never noticed until I let my son drive me to the store, but every vent in the car was turned facing the driver! I always wondered why all my passengers complained about the temperature, I felt fine! It goes to show, I don't drive with passengers very often.
Pros
Well thought out interior, generous amount of cubbies and pockets, charging ports.
Cons
Poor gas mileage, USB port doesn't provide a "charge only" mode.

2013 Hyundai Accent - Fun, comfortable, great features.

I really enjoy driving and owning this vehicle. I was looking for a car that was on the smaller side because I live in a big city, but I still wanted to make sure it had a lot of space to transport things. I definitely feel like I found a good balance in the Accent. It handles well and accelerates smoothly. Overall I find it really fun to drive. I also really like the look of the car, it's sleek without seeming too over the top. On the down side it is definitely a starter car. It doesn't have a ton of insulation, so you can hear almost everything going on outside of the car. Additionally, it is not as "high class" as some other cars are. However, even given it's "start status" it has some really nice bells and whistles. For example, if you want to pay for it you have the opti... (more)
Pros
I think my very favorite feature of the car is the iPod jack. It has been wonderful to be able to easily listen to my own music without having to lug a ton of CDs around with me. This has especially come in handy on long road trips when you want to mix it up a bit more and have a wider selection of music. I also like that the car comes with XM Satellite radio. We chose not to keep paying for it once our three month trial subscription was up because we just couldn't afford it, but while we had it was very enjoyable. It was super nice to not have to worry about losing the radio station ... (more)
Cons
There aren't many things I don't like about the car. The biggest is that the hatch is not as large as the space it opens up into, so there have been times that we've had something that would have fit in the back, but we couldn't get it through the hatch. The car is also not as sturdy as I would like it to be. We recently moved across the country, and put a bike rack on the back to bring our bikes with us. To be fair, the two bikes were a little on the heavier side, but it seemed a bit ridiculous for the rack to have left a dent in the hatch door. Most of my other complaints are simple... (more)

I didn't have the best credit and was fairly young when I purchased my Hyundai Accent. I really needed a car and Southwest Hyundai worked with me every step of the way. They allowed me to put a little bit extra as a down payment in order to get approved. However, it wasn't that much. They worked with me on the few times I was late making payments and I never had any problems with the car.
