The Hyundai Elantra is an affordable, sleek vehicle with power steering and power brakes. It has 38 miles to the gallon, enough for those back-and-forth trips across town. Seating is comfortable, soft and easy to fit into. Most of all, it comes equipped with a standard air conditioner and superior stereo sound for the long trips ahead. It's everything you want in a Hyundai, plus a bit more for an affordable price!
Story
I drove the Elantra from San Diego to L.A. without any problems. I had an enjoyable time driving it up the coast and after I made it back home, I could have driven another fifty miles. It was that good an experience.
Pros
It rides smooth and is a pleasure to drive. Even after a long vacation on the road, it's standard engine makes climbing up a hill easy with no problems. It seats four, or five depending on the passengers. Every seat is comfortable and easy for the long trip. The stereo system is clear and whether you have a CD player or MP3 player, you can hear every song loud and clear. The Elantra's standard engine gives you that pick up you need when driving in traffic, especially on freeways. It's also quiet There's enough trunk space to fit even your largest suitcases and tote bags.
Cons
The Elantra doesn't work well with normal unleaded gasoline. You might need a higher grade for it to drive efficiently. On steep hills, it doesn't give you the pick up you need to make that climb all because of the engine, which acts like a V6, but is only a four cylinder with horsepower. The headlights don't work as well in a dark, secluded area. There are times when their high beams might be used. Their seats have a tendency to wear out quickly if you've owned it for several years.

The quality of the car is fairly average. It's fairly light and drives that way as well, though there is not much weight to the car. I enjoy this aspect because it feels economic in gas, but I dislike it as well because it does not offer the same sense of security as a more heavier car would if an incident happened.
Story
A memorable story with my vehicle was trying to drive my car to a trailhead I have not been before. There was a tiny rock slide on the dirt path, and the car surprisingly was able to make it through it. Eventually, I had to turn back because a tire was grazed by a rock, making a cut on the side of the tire. If I had not encountered that rock, I imagine I probably could've made it all the way t... (more)
Pros
The car is surprisingly durable. I've had it for about five years and, at one point, had encountered a dirt road to a trailhead I was heading to. The dirt road had numerous rocks that had fallen, and surprisingly, the car had done relatively well in driving over the rocks without incident. I like that it saves gas for me. It's been reliable in commuting me across point A to point B.
Cons
I don't like how the car does not have long-term durability/reliability. For a period, my car had no issues and was extremely reliable. However, once a part goes out in the car, issues continuously arise in a short period from minor issues to eventually major issues that makes the car completely unreliable and unsafe to drive in. All issues that arose from the car went from spark plugs to transmission related issues - all of which were completely noticeable in the car jerking and lurching forward.
