2010 Hyundai Elantra - Reliable, safe, and affordable
The 2010 Hyundai Elantra is a great car. It's a very affordable model and has held up well over eight years of ownership. The interior is comfortable. I commute to work about one hour each day, and I am comfortable. The car can accommodate five people comfortably. The trunk is also reasonably large for transporting items. Mechanically, I have had no issues with this car. It is an easy car to drive. It has good speakers, a good heating and cooling system, and the cruise control is easy to operate. Overall, I would recommend this car to a friend, and I like it so much that my next car will most likely be another Hyundai.
Story
One memorable moment was the time a tree branch fell on my car. It was the day after a big storm, and my car was parked under a tree. When I was walking towards my car to get in, a huge branch fell on it! Luckily, the car was sturdy enough that it only suffered some scratches and cosmetic damage, but it was quite a memorable morning!
Pros
It's a very safe car. I have been rear ended twice and suffered other car mishaps, and the car held up well, with only exterior damage. Also after 100,000 miles, it has still not had any mechanical issues, so I would say it's very reliable. I also appreciate that the car is easy to pair with Bluetooth so that I can connect my phone and listen to music or podcasts on my drive.
Cons
There were many recalls for parts of the car (door handles, etc.), which were inconvenient to have resolved. Also, I wish it had better gas mileage. I have the cloth interior seats in the car, and I do wish that they were easier to clean--any spills or messes tend to stain and require major effort to remove.
2013 Hyundai Elantra - Compact with Space
My white Hyundai Elantra is the first car I've paid for mostly myself. There are extreme feelings of pride and responsibility associated with this vehicle. On the outside it's compact enough to fit in the small parking spaces, but on the inside it doesn't feel compact. There's plenty of space in the front for the driver and passenger, and there's plenty of space in the back seat! When I fold down both of the back seats I can fit just about anything in there. As a teacher it is extremely necessary for me to have space in my vehicle. Not only do I need space to carry all of my papers and teachery things home, but I need space to load up all the cool things I find to take to work. Freecycle is a teacher's dream, and my car needs to be big enough to support that dream. It gets great gas mi... (more)
Story
I recently went on a trip with my roommate and boyfriend to Bodega Bay. I volunteered my car because it gets the best gas mileage and I knew we'd all fit. It was nice to have a relaxing trip with the people I care about and not have to worry about the car breaking down or not making it.
Pros
I love the size and the gas mileage the most. I love the seat warmers that are in the front seats, and I love that both of the back seats fold down to create a larger space. The compact size makes it easy to park and maneuver.
Cons
I prefer larger vehicles because I like to be above the other cars and I like to have a lot of space, so the fact that it is a sedan is a negative to me. It does have an eco button, but I would probably love the car more if it was a hybrid.
