2013 Mazda Mazda3 - If dependability is your thing, this is your vehicle
My wife and I were looking for a low-cost, dependable vehicle a couple of years ago and decided upon a Mazda3. From a dependability standpoint - getting you from point A to point B with low maintenance and little to no repairs - this has been an excellent choice and something I would recommend to anyone.
Story
Living in the Bay Area, California, there are a number of great roads that go into the mountains or follow the coast. There have been a number of road trips along the California coast, listening to books on tape that have been pretty unforgettable in this vehicle.
Pros
The top positive things are the dependability and low maintenance costs on this vehicle. We have driven the vehicle over 60,000 miles and have only needed to service the vehicle at the major milestone checkpoints (30,000 + 60,000). Outside of these milestones, we've only needed to do oil changes and replace the tires. From the standpoint of not needing to put money in this car, this has been a great vehicle.
Cons
The only two negatives to this car are increasing levels of road noise and good, but not great, miles per gallon. At around the 50,000 mile point, my wife and I did notice quite a bit of road noise on the highway when going faster than 60mph. I first noticed this when needing to turn up the volume on the car radio on the highway. Also, the fuel efficiency is fine, but probably relative to other cars in its class, its just middle-of-the-road.
2012 Mazda Mazda3 - Highly dependable
The Mazda 3 is one of the best cars I have ever owned. As I've aged, I simply want my vehicle to be something that gets me from point A to point B worry-free and hassle-free, and this car has certainly fit the bill. Outside of routine maintenance and regular oil changes, I haven't needed to actively do anything for this car. It gets relatively good miles per gallon and is pretty good to drive relative to other cars in its class. For these reasons, I would give the Mazda 3 a stellar recommendation.
Story
I recall driving this car around highway 1 in California. This highway is very curvy and right on the ocean. It was really fun to test the handling of the vehicle when I first got it.
Pros
This car has been incredibly dependable and reliable. This car has needed nothing except for routine maintenance and check-ups. It is also relatively fun to drive for a car in its class.
Cons
It's a little noisy. The hubcaps are constantly needing attention in order to not have wind whistle through them, however this is a relatively minor detail.
