I have used my Jeep Grand Cherokee for ten years, and have many long road trips and strange adventures with it. I am not very good or consistent about upkeep or taking it into a store to have professionals look at it, but I have almost never had any problems with it until I hit around 350,000 miles.
Story
Every good road trip I've ever been on has been in this Jeep
Pros
Lots of space, leg room, head room, trunk space. Cup holders in good places, they don't get in the way, but are easily accessible to any seat in the vehicle. All the seats are comfortable and last forever Survived a young stupid teenager who couldn't drive, and lasted close to 375,000 miles in city and cross country.
Cons
Electrical work on rear brakes was one of the only constant upkeeps. I became very good at quickly changing brake lights, and always had an extra pair with some tools to install it at any given time, because I never found a dead tail light to be a surprise

My old car got smashed, I had just moved to the mountains, and needed AWD so I went looking for something new. Luckily, literally, my red Jeep was waiting for me with a for sale sign on the side of the road of my home town. In the end it has been really reliable and can hold in excess of a full cord of firewood inside.
Story
I live near a national forest and this car is really fun to drive off road in the mud.
Pros
It is almost indestructible. In spite of my less than perfect treatment, it has only had one major breakdown in the whole time I've owned it. It lives out in the ice and snow and doesn't show the least bit of age. The constant AWD works like a dream on steep, icy hills and streets and the info display just above the rear view window is handy and informative.
Cons
Do yourself a favor and don't let the battery go dead if you are in need of a smog check. Took me months to get the onboard computer to reset to the point where it would pass the test. Also, the air conditioner/ heater has died and seems way too expensive to repair.
