This is an average vehicle. Despite several recalls and a few random problems, this car has held up over the 90,000+ miles I have driven. While not spacious by any means, it seats the driver and children comfortably. It also has decent trunk space. I was able to fit a stroller, travel high chair, two 21" suitcases and a large diaper bag in the trunk without opening the back seat.
Story
Most of memorable stories with this vehicle have not been fun. For example, once my key broke off in the ignition, and I was unable to turn the car off. I was working at the time and had to leave it running in a client's driveway for two hours until I was able to take it home. I had to disconnect the battery to shut the car down. The next day, I had to have it towed to the shop because the bat... (more)
Pros
It has good gas mileage for a car its' age (22/30). It is also relatively easy for new drivers to handle as the suspension is tight. I like the position of the instrument panel. Since it's in the middle of the dash instead of behind the steering wheel, it takes a minute to get used to, but I have found it to be more intuitive than other cars.
Cons
Since Saturn is now defunct, it is difficult to find great parts for the car. The air compressor died, and I was only able to find a used air compressor at great cost to replace it. While the A/C functions now, it still struggles to keep up with the heat. Their have also been several recalls on the car--all of which were the result of poor design.

2001 Saturn Ion - Quality is lacking and it tends to be a rough ride.

The overall quality of the vehicle is low. Trim tends to pop off and the floor mats wear down very quickly. Also the ride is not very smooth, every bump on the road is felt. But the car is great on gas mileage and it has lasted this long (purchased new) with minimal issues. The transmission has died once, but it has run smoothly since.
Pros
The vehicle is relatively easy to work on at home. The brakes can be easily swapped in a few minutes and all parts of the engine are easy to access. The car has been great on gas mileage, and with a decent size tank it requires few gas station visits between fills.
Cons
The quality leaves a lot to be desired. Overall the car just feels cheep, which it was. But they skimped on things, detracting from the overall quality of the vehicle. The car can be very rough, especially on the interstate. Shocks have been checked, and confirmed in well working order. Since the beginning the car has just been a rough ride.

This is my family's "go-to" dealership for car purchases. They give great APR rates. They are flexible with payment schedules. They have cheap prices on the cars, not so much the SUVs though. They are flexible with payments should a problem arise. They also have excellent customer service!

The dealers on the show room floor didn't go at you like buzzards go after a wildebeest carcass after it's been left to rot in the sun for a day. The prices seemed right, and they got that I was a broke high school kid that needed a point A to B machine with no frills and made me feel comfortable through the whole experience, unlike other dealerships where my social anxiety began kicking in because of the ferocious attitude of their salespeople.
