I have owned a lot of cars, and previous to owning my Ion I owned a different Saturn. I was in an accident and that car held up so well that I went out and bought the Ion. The Ion has gone beyond my expectations. I bought it brand new and have had it for just over 8 years now. It has held up to my high-mileage driving, with low maintenance requirements and has always gotten me safely to and from where I am going. I have always felt safe in the car and know it will start up every morning. I have also always enjoyed having the dashboard in the middle of the car as opposed to in front of me. As a short person, the dashboard often obstructs my view a bit.
Story
I have horses at home and do not own a truck. I have had to transport bales of hay and other horse-related large items in the Saturn. I always get funny looks at the feed store, but it works.
Pros
The vehicle has held up with very little maintenance. I have driven it 185,000 miles in 8 years and still have the original brakes. I do regular oil changes, but have not done any of the other recommended upkeep, and the car is still running well. The exterior has held up and still looks like new.
Cons
I get a lot of flat tires in this car, and the electrical system has always been a little bit weird. My clock and radio will randomly stop working, and have since just after I bought the car.

I liked that it was different than the other cars in my price range at the time. For example, the battery is in the trunk and the speedometer and everything is in the middle of the dashboard. It's a deceptively quick car, I usually get to my destination with time to spare. I dislike that the paint has warped off of the hood of it.
Story
I used to drive it around my friend's apartment complex and we'd go out with a few girls.
Pros
I like that it gets great gas mileage, usually in a week I'll spend $25 at the most. I like that I can play my own music in it instead of the radio. I like that it has cruise control for highway driving.
Cons
It's used so the person before me didn't take good care of it and I had to fix a couple of things on it. There's a decent amount of mileage on it and things are beginning to fall apart and act strange. My key gets caught in the ignition at times when I turn it off. It's been starting to mess up when the windows get rolled down on the driver's side.

2007 Saturn Ion - Nice starter car, but starting to falter without having tons of miles

I got my car at the age of 16. I loved it at first because it was brand new and it was a pretty car. It was a nice green color, and I think the Saturn Ion is a pretty stylish-looking car. It also was unique in that the meters are in the center of the dashboard, rather than behind the drivers license. It was pretty comfortable, with a large trunk (great for moving far away), and it was very easy to maneuver. However, it definitely is not perfect. The radio buttons stopped working, followed by the windows (causing me to fail an inspection). It doesn't have much pickup, which can make it a bit tough to drive in the mountains. Additionally, it was recalled twice for repairs, which makes me nervous.
Story
The most memorable story about my car was the first time I drove at night in the mountains in it. The car struggled to climb the hills, but flew down the inclines, causing me to nearly have a heart attack every time, as I couldn't really see around corners.
Pros
The best things about the car are the style, the uniqueness of the inside, and the trunk space. It was a good car for driving in high school because of its stylishness, and it's a good car for moving cross country because of the trunk space. It also had decent gas mileage (about 25-30 mpg), which is a big plus.
Cons
The buttons on the radio/center console began to fail on the car. Not long after that, several of the windows stopped going down (mechanic can't figure out what's wrong). There were several issues that caused the car to be recalled, including the fuel line and the ignition. It doesn't have much pickup, making it difficult to drive in the mountains. It's also somewhat cramped when riding as a passenger.
