2007 Saturn Ion Owner Ratings & Reviews

2007 Saturn Ion - Best first car to own.
This car was my very first car at 16 years old. We bought it because the price was unbeatable. It was only two years old and only had 30K miles on it at the time. It had great safety ratings and looked "cool" enough for a 16 year old. I drove it back and forth to school, work, and college. We never planned on me still having this car at 24 years old, but it only has 115K on it now, and it still runs excellently. I keep the oil changed and the tires rotated as recommended. In the last year, there have been a few cosmetic issues we have run into, such as the plastic component on the front windows where it keeps water from going into the door is beginning to bunch up and harden in one place, and the trunk leaks on the passenger side when it rains. But for the value of the car, I cannot co... (more)
Story
The vehicle has two regular-sized doors on the front and two "suicide" or half doors for the back doors which makes the back seats a little cramped with not much leg room. We took a family trip to the beach and drove my car, and the guy I was dating at the time was 6'3" and weighed roughly 230 lbs. We took turns driving, and when it was his turn in the back seat, he looked like he was extremel... (more)
Pros
I cannot get over how well the car has driven in the eight years that I have had it. I have not had any major issues with the car, and any minor ones were either recalls or those that were easily fixable and not terribly expensive. The engine still turns over at just the touch of the key, and it gets great gas mileage. It's a very sharp-looking car with a spoiler on the back to give it a sporty touch, and it is fire-engine red. One neat feature is that the MPH and the gauges are in the middle of the dashboard angled toward the driver instead of directly behind the steering wheel, and every... (more)
Cons
The main top negative is that the year that I bought the car, Saturns stopped being made. While that meant we got a stellar deal on the car, it is now making repairs a little more difficult to obtain parts, especially as we are nearing the ten-year mark where they stop making replacement parts (although, they will still be able to be found). While the recalls were easily fixed, it was still a pain to have to go through the process and get a rental car, but all the expenses were taken care of. The one recall that was actually an issue on mine was a small gas leak in one of the lines from th... (more)
2007 Saturn Ion - Good quality for the price.
The price couldn't be beat. I have put over 175,000 miles on the vehicle, and there is no noise coming from it. Have only had to put minor wear and tear repairs on it. There were several manufacturer defects that needed to be repaired which was annoying. The stereo sometimes doesn't work and then will miraculously work again. It has fairly good pickup. It is a standard, which I enjoy driving around in. Don't hit anything because you will have some serious cracks. Drives well on back roads as well highways, and you can't beat the great gas mileage. Even though the car is over 10 years old, I still get about 25 miles to the gallon. The electric steering is nice, as you don't need to worry about power steering fluid or belts going and then not having any steering. The rust proof bottom is... (more)
Story
Taking the car down to the cape. Traffic was horrible, we were crawling since 495, and it took us about 3 hours to get across the bridge. The car ride wasn't too bad because of the company and good music that was being played. Most standard drivers hate driving when it is bumper to bumper because of the clutch, but with this car, the clutch is relatively easy so it didn't even matter. Once we ... (more)
Pros
One of the best things I found out while repairing my vehicle is that many of the Cavalier parts are interchangeable with the Saturn vehicle. This keeps costs down as the new parts are much easier to obtain. I enjoy driving the vehicle, as it is a standard, and the shifting is relatively smooth. Catching the clutch is much easier than in other vehicles and catches in the same spot every time without having to put the clutch right to the floor. Visibility out of front side and back is easy as there are not many blind spots. Front-wheel drive actually doesn't do too bad in the snow and have ... (more)
Cons
Sometimes the buttons on the stereo system do not work, which is annoying when trying to change the station or the clock during daylight savings time. The clock seems to run much slower which means over time your clock is behind what it really should be. The number of manufacturer defects was alarming, as it seemed like a span of 6 months I was receiving notices that I needed to have this or that fixed. The quality of the seats is a little cheap, as it stains and can be ripped very easily. The amount of leg room in the backseat is less than ideal if there is a larger person sitting in one ... (more)
