1999 Saturn L-Series - It's a great car.

I love my Saturn. It's small, but not too small. I'm able to fit most things in the trunk that I need to with the back seats folding down to give more room. I have had very few problems with this car, other than regular maintenance and regular wear. The gas mileage is around 25 mpg in the city and around 30 on the highway. It's fun to drive and I'm able to fit into smaller parking spaces. However, with this being a smaller car and being lower to the ground, it never fails that when I do park in a lot, it never fails that an SUV will park on one side of me and a truck on the other, making it virtually impossible to see if any other cars are coming. So, I have to inch out of the spot and hope I won't get hit. Although I don't feel overly safe in the vehicle, as I'm sure it would be total... (more)
Pros
The best things about this car is that I get fairly good gas mileage. It is easy to drive. The back seats fold down in order to allow for more storage space when needed. It's fun to drive. Repair bills are not astronomical and a lot of the repairs are still fairly easy, i.e.., A lot of parts do not need to be removed to fix other parts.
Cons
It's small, so when pulling out of a parking spot, very often, it's very hard to see if any cars are coming, especially if a van or truck is parked next to me. As an older person, I find that the car is almost too low for some of my friends to get in and out of easily.

When I saw this car, I knew it was the one I wanted. It's extremely cute and a simple, easy to use car. It drives well and I have had no major or even minor issues with it and most of what I've read from other owners of the same car is all positive. I also love that it is not easily damaged. I've hit a big steel mailbox with this car at one point and it cracked the headlight but otherwise was perfectly fine. The front end is long and it makes me feel even more safe because if I did hit someone it wouldn't rip through the front and cause harm to me as easily in a smaller car. I love that this car looks different, it stands out from the cars on the road that all look the same. There isn't much maintenance. The only thing I do dislike about my Saturn is that they aren't made any longer so... (more)
Story
There's no particularly fun stories about the vehicle, it's just a fun car in general. I love taking it out on long drives, love having my friends ride with me. It's a great little car.
Pros
I love the look above anything else. It is unique looking. A Saturn is easy to recognize on the road and has its own special appeal. I also love how easy it is to drive. It runs excellent, has surprisingly good sound quality for the year, and is easy to control and maneuver on the road.
Cons
I do dislike the way the front seat is. I'm short and I have to scoot it all the way forward and even then have trouble seeing over the wheel and reaching the gas pedal. I wish it had more when it comes to adjusting the seats, as in making them higher up. Another issue I've noticed is the headlights aren't very bright and it can be hard to see while driving in the dark and hard for other cars to see my lights if I'm further away.

It's a great size if you don't need to transport more than two people. The backseat is way too small to be in for very long, but the front seats are plenty roomy. The roof is tall enough there. The car is very low to the ground, which I love. Normally that would mean the roof is low and I hit my head when I go over speed bumps, but that never happens in this car. It has great pick up and acceleration. It's a 5 speed and handles so well. It's silly, but I feel like a race car driver on the highway. The engine is loud enough to hear when to shift and to feel exciting, but quiet enough that it isn't obnoxious. You don't have to turn the radio up over the engine. Speaking of, the stereo is surprisingly good. The trunk is a wonderful size, and if you need to fit something in the back (I had... (more)
Story
I was moving to a new apartment and I'd gotten the last of my things- a bookshelf in the back and the passenger floorboard full of books. My dog was sitting in the passenger seat with his head out the window. I turned the radio way up and ended up looping through my new neighborhood listening to music with the windows down.
Pros
My favorite features are the speed and handling, the stereo, and the front seat space. It brakes quickly. It feels sporty, but also really safe. The gas mileage is great.
Cons
It's not going to last as long as some other vehicles. I took great care of it, and it lasted long enough for the price, but I had a few problems before it died completely. The cord that connects to the shifter snapped and I got stuck in second gear, which was scary. I had some trouble with the starter and a few other minor problems.
