2002 Saturn L-Series - Great car, even at 13 years old
I bought my 2002 Saturn L300 about a year ago. I did a lot of research about different cars in my price range and wound up specifically looking for a Saturn. Even with 145,000 miles on it the car is exceptional in many ways. I was concerned that I might not get good gas mileage with a 6 cylinder, but I'm actually getting better mileage than I did with my previous 4 cylinder. The handling is great... It takes turns like a smaller car. There's only one small spot of rust on the body, which is a lot better than most cars this age. The only thing I've had to have fixed on it was a rear control arm that broke when I hit a bad pothole last spring. The interior is very nice, with most all of the controls in easy to get to locations. It's very spacious and comfortable, with a large trunk, too.... (more)

The one thing I would change in the interior is the location of the window controls. They're on the center console, and I would prefer them to be on the doors. The exterior styling is nice, like a lot of the mid size cars from that time, but with a bit of a classy look. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for an inexpensive used car that can take the time to look around and find the best one on the market.
Recently there have been two traffic circles, or roundabouts, put in in the area I drive all the time. At first I really disliked them, probably just because of not being used to them. Now I like to take advantage of the good handling of my car to take the curves, and sometimes think I'm driving in a road race.

I knew from talking to other people and reading reviews that Saturns are cars that people like to own because of their long time reliability. That was very important to me since I knew I'd be buying an older car with the amount of money I had. After driving it a year, and putting another 8000 miles on it seems like the same car it was when I bought it. I've had no trouble with it burning oil or oil leaks. Other than the fact that I need to get new tires before this winter, the handling and suspension are really good. It "hugs the road" like you would expect from a sportier car. The gas mi... (more)

The gas mileage has actually really surprised me. I'm getting around 28 or 29 miles to the gallon with about an even mix of in town driving and non-expressway trips of about 40 miles. The interior room is great. I rarely have anyone riding with me, but when I have they've said it's a very comfortable car to ride in. I recently moved and was surprised at the amount of stuff I was able to get in the trunk and back seat, especially with the back seats put down. All in all I really like this car, and would recommend it to other people.
There really aren't many cons about this car, but my pet peeve about it is the location of the window controls. Instead of being on the doors like most cars this age, they're on the center console. It's actually a minor thing, but even after a year I keep reaching for the door to put the windows up or down. I've had some trouble with "idiot lights" coming on, and when I have them checked out it's nothing. I hope that's not a sign of possible electrical problems in the future. Another thing is something that is good in some ways, but can be an inconvenience. The glove compartment is so deep... (more)

Another thing is something that is good in some ways, but can be an inconvenience. The glove compartment is so deep it's hard to reach anything that's in it from the driver's seat. It's great to have that much room to put stuff, but it's difficult to get to it. I was surprised when I first found out that the main fuse block is under the hood. It's another thing that can be good, because it's easier to get to than some that are under the dash. It just seems unusual to me. I really do like the car a lot, and have had very few problems with it, so it's hard for me to list many cons.
1996 Saturn L-Series - Dependable Car
The Saturn SL-1 has very many pro's as it is a dependable vehicle and great on gas. I recommend this car to anyone who is a first time buyer and would like to learn how to take care of a vehicle. There is nothing in this car that isn't hard to remove, replace, or clean. Another great pro is that it is budget vehicle, which delivers way more than most budget vehicles.
If I had any cons to say about this vehicle, it would be the room. I would not recommend this car to a large family, as it is a small vehicle and space is limited.

This vehicle has been there for me through thick and thin, and has never let me down. Nearing 200,000 miles and still drives my family to the movies, and my daughter to the park.

Top pros: Affordable, great on gas, easy to learn mechanically, and a perfect starter car for any young man or woman.

Top con: This is a small vehicle, and so it has limited space. The vehicle is also very light, so safety is a slight issue.

2000 Saturn L-Series - Lemon
My vehicle is a complete piece of junk. I hate it. It overheats very quickly, inside and out. The tires are worn down and I'm pretty sure it is/was stolen before it was sold to me. I would never recommend this to anyone. Stay away from this car.

I remember when I was chased by the Fullerton police department. That was one hell of a crazy night.

One of the few things I liked about this car is that it does really good on gas and gets really good mileage.

The inside gets hot and you start sweating soon as you get inside. The tires are very worn down. It has a very ugly paint job.
