I had never driven an all-wheel drive vehicle before I bought my Subaru. Right away, I noticed the handling was much easier than two-wheel drive vehicles. I could pass 18 wheeler trucks on the highway without feeling as if I were being blown all over the road. The gas mileage was comparable to other sedans I had driven, despite the all-wheel drive factor. The car felt more substantial than many other cars. I felt more safe in the Subaru.
Story
I lived in Richmond, VA, and commuted to Norfolk, VA for classes. This was approximately two hours of driving each day. My Subaru handled the commute with ease.
Pros
The car was very safe. The brakes have always stopped quickly. There are dual airbags, and Subarus do well in crash-test ratings. I love the way the all-wheel drive means the car "hugs" the road. The heat and air conditioning work quickly to warm or cool the car. The headlights automatically turn off with the engine, so there is no way to accidentally leave them on and drain the battery. I only had to do routine maintenance until the car reached 150,000 miles.
Cons
After 150,000 miles, the car has needed a lot of maintenance. I replaced the CV boots, oxygen sensors, something that caused a dead engine cylinder, rack and pinion steering, and an alternator within a few months. If one tire wears out, more than likely all tires will need to be replaced. If one tire's tread is more or less thick, it can create problems for the transmission. I hear Subaru remedied this problem in later model cars.

This Subaru has been good so far. I definitely made a good decision purchasing the Legacy. The seats in my vehicle are leather and are very comfortable. The backseat area is extremely spacious, can easily fit very tall people comfortably. The trunk is also spacious. The legacy gets good gas mileage. It accelerates fairly quick for a four-cylinder vehicle. My vehicle has heated seats, which are greatly appreciated in cold weather. The air conditioner works wonderfully even on hot summer days when temperature is in the 90s.
Story
A memorable moment was driving along the ocean with sunroof open to enjoy the salty air.
Pros
I like the amount of room in the Legacy in both the trunk and passenger compartment. The sound system in the vehicle quite impressive, better than some of the sound systems found in luxury vehicles. The Subaru handles really well in bad weather.
Cons
The few negative things I noticed about the car is there's a vibration noise at 1500 rpm. There is no real problem when the sound is occurring, it's just rather annoying. A tire pressure sensor has failed prematurely in the vehicle, only six years before it needed to replaced. The back-up camera has also started to fail, the camera is mounted on the trunk and I suspect there is loose connection to the camera.

The staff was friendly, and willing to work with a low down payment. They tried their hardest without being pushy. In particular, my salesman was up front with me regarding the history of the car. The salesman was also willing to let me drive whatever I wanted without rushing me towards a purchase. The financial manager was willing to argue my case to multiple banks in an effort to get the best rates.

As soon as my husband and I walked onto the lot, we felt very comfortable and at ease. No one ran up to us to start hammering us with questions. After we had looked around for a few minutes, a salesman approached us to answer our questions. We never felt pushed or pressured into anything. The salesman didn't even suggest a test drive until we said we wanted one. After we decided on which car, he explained the whole purchasing process and fought to get us the best interest rate he could. I highly recommend Ultimate Subaru.
