I bought a 2012 Sonata to replace another. It had regular 3,000-mile oil changes. I bought it to NTB for the last one in June of 2014.The sticker said to get oil changed at 58,000. He said it would be fine at 62,000. No problems. I heard some knocking at 63,000 miles so I had it towed in. I have a warranty so I did not want to risk it. No oil light. No burning. No indication of oil issue. I thought it was a belt. I take it they told me it had burned through almost four quarts of oil and it killed the engine. Mild weather, light driving. Reasonable oil changes a little past oil change date and this? The extended $1,000 warranty won't cover it. They want $5,000 to put new engine. Beware.
Story
Our 2012 Sonata with regular maintenance records experienced a sudden catastrophic engine failure at 74,000 miles. No warning lights have ever come on in the car, but it suddenly began to lose power and make a terrible noise. Since it was still under warranty, we had it towed to our dealer who told us that the engine had to be replaced. It was covered and the engine would be replaced within a ... (more)
Pros
I am very careful when I buy a car because I tend to keep them for long time. I built a matrix to help me decide what car to buy. The objective parameters (I add one subjective at the end) where: first class gas mileage, excellent crash ratings, better than average warranty, first class in space, better than average five years cost to own, excellent price. Two cars came on top Hyundai Sonata/Kia optima. Both leaded the pack in gas mileage, tops in crash ratings, but the Sonata was bigger than the rest in almost any measure, great price, tons of added standard features (Bluetooth was impor... (more)

I think the Hyundai Sonata 2013 is a terrific car. Prior to this, I had a 1999 Hyundai Accent. I wasn't in all that great of shape aesthetically, but it was a pretty reliable ride considering the amount of miles on it and what it had been through; so, I knew that I wanted to stick with Hyundai when I got a new car. The Sonata is all that I wanted in a car and much more. On the exterior, the paint job and general look of the car is pristine. It looks like something that you'd see a business executive driving around town. The key allows me to automatically open the truck, unlock/lock my doors, and sound the horn, which is cool! Back to the aesthetic, the car is a smoky gray that is really nice. The windows are super clear and everything looks like a work of art. The car looks gorgeous on... (more)
Story
Probably when I bought it and drove it home. My first car was the Accent, so being in a new, slick car like that made me feel like a kid at Christmas. If I had hair, it would have been blowing in the wind while I had the system cranked up.
Pros
The sound system really has some BOOM to it and the controls are intuitive. The car looks like a luxury car, but doesn't seem like it'd break down like one. It gets solid City and Highway Mileage (24 and 35). The seats, steering wheel, and other features feel good.
Cons
There is no back window windshield wiper. Not sure how that'll work in the Winter. Sound system has no equalizer. Parking brake is a little odd for me, but it could be because I'm used to a "pull back stick" parking brake as opposed to the push-in.

They worked fast and explained all the steps. We got a great deal even though our credit score wasn't that good. We had some minor issues with the car on a second day after we purchased it and CarMax fixed everything fast and free of charge.

Marvin, the salesperson was awesome. He was attentive to my needs and wants and helped me with the financing department. The entire staff that I encountered were amazing. They were all polite and helpful and actually made my family and I feel more than just a $ sign.
