Toyota 4Runner Owner Ratings & Reviews
Write a Review
2006 Toyota 4Runner - 4Runner forever.
There is so much to love about my 2006 4x4 4Runner Limited. It is the most mechanically sound, comfortable vehicle I have ever owned. It handles exceptionally well, has excellent visibility and is very safe. The V6 engine has plenty of get up and go, and I can pull a travel trailer or utility trailer with ease.
Story
My friends and I were out at the beach at sunrise. The tide was coming in. We got up in some soft sand and got stuck. The waves were getting closer and closer to us. I turned the knob, put the 4Runner in 4-High, engaged the differential, gently put my foot on the gas, and we drove right out of the thick sand.
Pros
The pros for the 4Runner are its reliability -- even now, at 234,00 miles, I wouldn't hesitate to drive this vehicle cross-country. The Limited trim makes the ride exceptionally smooth and luxurious -- heated leather seats, sunroof, dual temperature control and premium sound system are features that make one feel like the king of the road.
Cons
The only one that really comes to mind is the fact that there is no exterior lock on the passenger's side of the vehicle. If using your key fob, you can only unlock the doors from the driver's side.
1992 Toyota 4Runner - Quality
The truck is built to last. Having owned it for over 10 years, and it being almost 25 years old, I am just now replacing original parts on it that have finally needed to be replaced (ball joints, shocks, ac compressor)
The only thing lacking on the vehicle is the engine power, it is a 3.0 liter and just doesn't have much horsepower. The other thing that doesn't work well for a DIY (do it yourself) person, is the engineering of some of the components. Changing bushings in the gear box, working on fuel filters and CV axles, can test your patience.
Overall, even with the hardships, I would not trade anything for this. It has always been reliable and worked when needed.
Story
Taking it off road for the first time after installing a lift and new tires. Worked like it was meant for being off the concrete.
Pros
Simplicity. Unlike newer cars, you can figure out how to do things yourself and not rely on mechanics or other professionals to do it. Plus you learn how to do things for yourself.
Cons
Engineering. Whoever decided on how to build this thing did not plan on a normal human being to be able to work on it. The angles and design make it very difficult to change certain parts (ac, cv axles).
