2001 Toyota Camry - A Great Car To Own

I have been driving for 35 years and I have owned only 4 cars, all Toyotas. I have driven more than 1 million miles between these 4 cars, with my current one, a 2001 Camry, having 257,000 miles on it and it is still going strong. The overall endurance quality is hard to beat; the car just keeps on going and going and going. As far as performance goes, its not the best but it does do well for a 4-cylinder engine and today still manages to get about 28 MPG on the highway. My biggest peeve I have about the car, though, is the front-wheel drive gives a pull to the right, more strongly, I believe, than many other cars.
Story
The only memorable, funny thing I can remember concerns a customer of another business in the shopping center where our restaurant was located. She had the same color Camry, probably the same year, and at least 5 times got frustrated with her remote not unlocking the door to the car, even though she kept hearing the unlock noise. Of course, she kept trying to open my car and not hers.
Pros
The best thing about the car is it's a Toyota, so its overall quality is great. Maintenance repairs are minimal. It still gives a fairly comfortable ride, even with over 250,000 miles on it and none of the suspension parts have been replaced. The interior is roomy and can comfortably carry 4 adults, even though it is usually just me, my wife, and our 4 Maltese dogs. It almost seems like the car was designed with the dogs in mind, too. They are small, under 10 pounds, and they can easily walk between the front and back seats, if they want to.
Cons
The worst thing about the car is it doesn't have a lot of power in the 4-cylinder engine. It's great for most of my needs, as I don't spend time in stop-and-go traffic and Florida doesn't have any mountains. However, I feel that if I had still lived in Los Angeles when I bought this car, that I would have needed to spend a little more to upgrade to the 6-cylinder engine. One thing that has happened with this car that I never experienced before, is that I have had to replace the driver's side outside door handle twice as the part that you pull on cracked off. Other than that, I have been ve... (more)

To date, this is the first and only car I have purchased and owned and I have loved it ever since. I purchased it used, around 8 years ago at around 120,000 miles, and it was in great condition then. Since then, the interior condition has worn out a little, but it has only been aesthetic. I was not concerned with fixing these problems as long as everything was still functional. Now being a 21 year old car, it still runs and has a few appearance flaws but all in all the working condition has been satisfactory to me.
Story
When I first came to this location I was a part of an internship opportunity with people from all over the world. Since I was one of the few who had a car, I was always recruited to take everyone back and forth to Disney World. Those experiences and that car will always stick with me.
Pros
The top positive thing and my favorite feature about this car has been the gas mileage efficiency. As long as I have owned the car, even through engine troubles, it has had good gas mileage. Around 20-25 mpg city and at least 40 mpg highway. The best pros of this car have always been it's efficiency and overall dependability. I have never really had to worry about this car for the past 8 years that I have owned it.
Cons
I would have to say the negatives of this car have been some durability issues. In the 8 years that I have owned this car, I have had to replace the transmission, a fuel injector, motor mount, a distributor cap, and a few other things. Some of these things were just naturally worn out and general maintenance but I felt some other repairs were too expensive and unnecessary for the age of the car. Also, the interior appearance has become worn down over time. It is expected for the age of the car and most are just appearance issues; nothing has really lost function on the interior. I am start... (more)

The salesman was the best experience. He was kind, friendly, and funny. He made me laugh a lot. He did a great job from the initial greeting all the way to the end. The dealership was old and needed updating, of which they were going to do. But the salesman made the experience great!
