I purchased this car used, but with low mileage. After almost ten years we have put about 200,000 miles on it. There have been a few repairs, but most have been just routine maintenance. We did have to replace the computer which was an expensive repair. The car was 12 years old at that point. As a family of four we have taken quite a few trips and have easily fit all the suitcases, baby gear, etc. we'll needed in the trunk space. It gets great gas mileage especially on the high way which makes it a great trip car. We have used to roof rack to transport a Christmas tree and since the seats fold down, we have been able to purchase large items and lumber. The vehicle is very comfortable with leather seats and looks higher end with phowood accents. We really enjoy the sunroof when the we... (more)
Story
We used this car to bring our daughter home from the hospital. A special moment we will never forget. If course, we have pictures of the baby in the car. My husband stressed over the car seat installation which is actually very easy since there are car seat mounts. The hospital was about 45 minutes away from our home, but the drive took so much longer because my husband drive so slow. He didn'... (more)
Pros
Comfortable ride. Reliable. Lots of trunk space. Good gas mileage for Its size. Easy to park. Drives like a car. Fast. Can be worked on at home.
Cons
Doesn't fit three car seats across in the back seat. The third row pop up seat really only provides enough leg room for small children. Mechanic labor can be expensive since some parts are hard to get to. Tires are a little pricey due to size.

2008 Toyota Highlander - A pretty good SUV all around

Our 2008 Toyota Highlander has been a pretty good SUV all around. We have had no major mechanical issues, which is extremely important to us. The build quality seems to be excellent, it is a Toyota, so never really any concern there. The interior is comfortable and fairly good quality, although we have issues with the leather on both the drivers and passenger seats splitting on the side bolster. We invested in a set of Weathertech mats right from the beginning, and they have worked wonders to preserve the light grey carpeting throughout the vehicle, especially with kids!
Story
We did some minor off-roading with our Highlander, nothing too extreme, but we did ford a shallow creek.
Pros
Roomy, can carry seven people at full capacity. Very reliable and durable. We have taken on several trips to the mountains, and the four-wheel drive feels very competent, especially in snow. Traction control works wonders as well. The Highlander has a great sounding stereo as well as Bluetooth compatibility for hands-free phone use.
Cons
Room for seven comes at the expense of being able to really put anything in the cargo area. A normal grocery store trip necessitates folding down the rear seat to accommodate anything more than three to four grocery bags. The navigation system is a little hard to use, and it can't be used at all when driving. I understand the reason why this is so, but doesn't Toyota realize that someone in the passenger seat could use the navigation system as well?

While I wouldn't say that our dealings with Ernie Palmer Toyota were always the smoothest or easiest, in the end we did get the car that we wanted at the price that we wanted to pay. We got a fair amount on our trade in which definitely helped to offset the cost of a new, larger SUV. Everyone there was nice to talk to and nothing ever came up that was a deal breaker.
