Toyota Prius Owner Ratings & Reviews

2005 Toyota Prius - Fantastic road trip car.
The 05 Prius gets excellent gas mileage, as one would expect from such a car. This is the hatchback model, which was initially a drawback because it allows anyone to see into the trunk, however, when transporting long or over-sized cargo (file cabinet, for instance), the seats fold down allowing plenty of room.
The only real drawback to the car is the quality of the interior fabric. It looks nice until it gets dirty at which point it is very difficult to shampoo, the center console material is especially delicate and does not stand up to scrubbing, and it seems that the material never really gets clean.
Mechanically the car is great, it currently has over 230k miles and is still the original battery. The only major repair was to the Hybrid Cooling System, which was a little expensive. ... (more)
Story
We took my in-laws, who were visiting from out of town up to the mountains, above Woodland Park. We decided to have a picnic but there were no tables, so we set up in the back of the Prius, kind of like a tailgate, but with a roof!
Pros
The seats of the Prius are very comfortable and there is adequate leg room, even for taller than average individuals. The gas mileage is about 44 mpg right now, which for a 12 year old car is great. Its very quiet, and reliable.
Cons
The hatchback is not my favorite feature, I like to be able to have some privacy for what is in my trunk, whether I need to hide my valuables or just don't want my jumper cables and gym bag on display. The upholstery is not very durable and tends to show stains and dirt.
2005 Toyota Prius - GREAT car
The 2005 Toyota Prius is an a fantastic vehicle. Overall, it is one of the best cars my family has ever owned. It is the third Prius we've owned, having owned a 2001 and 2007 model previously. Performance has been excellent, no complaints. As is the case with anything by Toyota, quality is very high, and it is clear that the designers and engineers take a great deal of pride in their work.
Story
We took a 2000+ mile road-trip around the four corners region. I'm about 6'4", and had no problems staying comfortable enough in the Prius while enjoying the beautiful American South West. The low cost of fuel didn't hurt, either.
Pros
With the Prius, there is one item that likely tops anyone's list when describing pros: fuel economy. The 2005 Prius is rated 51 city, 60 highway, and it is easy to get mid-40s (ratings are always overly generous). The JBL stereo sounds incredible, easily one of the best-sounding car stereos I've ever heard. The spacious hatchback storage area makes trips to Costco a breeze (even with three kids in the back!). The interior trim is durable and stays clean easily, and the dual glove compartments combined with the large center console offer more than enough interior storage.
Cons
The only negative that comes to mind is that the Prius only seats five, and if my wife and I go anywhere with our three kids, it's hard to take a dog. However, that's not so much an issue with the car, so much as that we've made an unconventional vehicle choice based on our family size.
