Overall Score: 7.4/10

Safety Features: 8/10

Many optional safety features are available for the 2020 Envision. These include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and parallel park assist. Front parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, pre-collision warning, a surround-view parking camera, and lane departure warning are also available.

Every trim level comes with a rearview camera and rear parking sensors. The Teen Driver system, which lets you lock in audio and speed settings, also comes standard.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the all-wheel-drive version of the 2020 Buick Envision a perfect overall safety score, with only the frontal and rollover crash tests receiving an imperfect four out of five stars. The NHTSA didn't crash-test the front-wheel-drive version of this vehicle.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) also gave this compact SUV perfect crash-safety marks, though it didn't name the vehicle a 'Top Safety Pick.'

Value: 7/10

With an MSRP ranging from $31,995-$43,600, the 2020 Buick Envision comes in five trim levels: Envision 1SV, Envision Preferred, Envision Essence, Envision Premium, and Envision Premium II.

The base 1SV trim costs $31,995, while the Preferred goes for $33,500. The Essence trim retails for $35,800, the Premium trim costs $40,700, and the Premium II trim comes in at $43,600.

How does the Envision stack up against the competition? Reviewers feel the GMC Terrain offers slightly better bang-for-your-buck, with better fuel economy and cargo space at a lower price. Though less luxurious and equipped with fewer technologies than the Envision, the Ford Edge is better-handling and features powerful engine options. All in all, the Envision is a little expensive but still a worthy contender in the near-luxury SUV space.

General Motors offers a basic warranty of four years or 50,000 miles for the 2020 Buick Envision, as well as a powertrain warranty of six years or 70,000 miles. Reviewers give the vehicle high marks for reliability.

Tech Features: 8/10

Reviewers agree that the Envision's suite of tech amenities is competitive. An 8.0-inch IntelliLink touchscreen infotainment system comes standard, and its head-up display has received praise for its responsiveness, simple controls, and user-friendly interface. Unfortunately, this touchscreen lacks a rotary control.

Other standard features include a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, a six-speaker audio system, OnStar communications, dual-zone automatic climate control, and satellite radio. Smartphone integration and four USB ports are standard as well.

Optional tech features include a wireless device charger, navigation system, voice recognition, and a seven-speaker Bose premium audio system.

Practicality: 6/10

The 2020 Buick Envision has average cargo space, more than the Lexus NX but less than the Acura RDX or incoln Corsair. With the rear seats in place, it enjoys 26.9 cubic feet of cargo space. This vehicle boasts 57.3 cubic feet of cargo space with the 60/40 split-folding seats down. Several small cubbies provide extra storage.

A five-seater, this SUV also has average front- and back-row legroom for its class. This SUV comes with two rear LATCH child-seat connectors located on the rear outboard seats -- the rear middle seat features an upper tether. An optional hands-free power liftgate affords easy access to the cargo area.

Styling & Design: 7/10

Reviewers feel the Envision has a conservative exterior, with some describing it as a tad stodgy. A modest profile, subtle LED taillights, and a classic Buick grille shape characterize the luxury SUV's body. Weighing 3,755-4,083 pounds, depending on the trim level, the 2020 Buick Envision is 183.7 inches long, 66.8 inches high, and 72.4 inches wide. The vehicle has a wheelbase of 108.3 inches.

Inside, the vehicle is plush and comfortable, according to reviewers. Cloth seats come standard, but you can pay extra for leather upholstery. Ventilated, heated, and power-adjustable seats are also on offer. The base trim features a leather-wrapped steering wheel, but you can purchase a heated steering wheel if desired. Road, tire, and engine noise are minimal while driving.

Some reviewers feel the SUV's thick roof pillars create front and rear blind spots. They also think the instrument cluster could be better designed and regret that the cabin features so many cheap-looking plastics.

Driving Experience: 8/10

In the base 2020 Buick Envision is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine capable of 197 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine is optional, featuring 252 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. While the base engine has a six-speed automatic transmission and either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, the optional engine has a nine-speed automatic transmission and a more advanced AWD system.

This vehicle's ride has received praise for being smooth and gentle, thanks to a soft suspension. Since this SUV is designed for comfort over precision, the handling can feel a little slow and unresponsive on bendy roads. Braking is effortless, and acceleration is quick. The Envision drives best on city streets, where handling is less of an issue.

Fuel Efficiency: 8/10

The 2020 Buick Envision has impressive fuel economy for a near-luxury SUV, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). With FWD and the base engine installed, the vehicle gets 22 mpg on city roads and 29 mpg on highways for a combined 25 mpg. With AWD and the same engine, the Envision gets 21 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined.

Meanwhile, the Envision Preferred trim gets 22 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. More fuel-efficient SUVs include the Audi Q5 and Lexus NX 300.
