2006 Buick Lucerne - Affordable Luxury
This car was purchased about six months ago. In that time I have gotten to know the Lucerne very well. This is the most advanced car that I have owned - but I jumped to a '06 from a '99. The technology definitely came a long way in that amount of time. The ride of this car is incredibly smooth and just a pleasure to take out on the road. It handles incredibly well and you barely feel the bumps of the Michigan roads.

The first time that I drove it to a gathering of my friends. Everyone wanted to go for a ride in it. I liked my car being the center of attention.

The 3.8 Liter engine is nice. It does come with a fairly good amount of power but it doesn't suck up the gas like you think it would. Even at 100,000 miles this car still gets nearly 30 highway miles to the gallon.

The interior is spacious and comfortable. There is abundant leg room for tall folk and the seats are very adjustable and easy to get comfortable in. The air conditioner is incredible. You could almost make ice cubes in the front seat if you left it on long enough! Seriously, though, with the back seat vents the air circulates very well.
The engine is nearly inaudible from inside the car, as well.
The only complaint I have is that this car, despite being a 2006, is not E-85 compatible. I would really like to have a more green car in that regard.

2006 Buick Lucerne - Enjoy the little luxuries, dislike the mpg
My husband and I bought this car used for our second vehicle shortly after our child was born. It fit our car seat nicely and we were captivated by the little luxuries: heated seats; separate temperature controls for driver and front passenger; air vents for the backseat in the front seat partition (which has been great since our kid is now forward-facing). One thing I particularly enjoyed was the ability to record two driver seat settings (mirror and wheel placement, how far forward the seat is, where the seat back is, where the lumbar support is, etc.), So we don't need to fiddle with everything every time we switch drivers. The seats are comfortable and I really appreciate the digital warnings, which are more than just little lights but full phrases (i.e. ENGINE OIL LOW). However, t... (more)

However, this car ended up being our primary vehicle when our first car stopped working about two months after our purchase. This is when we really felt the relatively low MPG of this car; I commuted 2 hours a day, so we were eating through gas. It's not the worst MPG out there, certainly, but it was lower than any of the other cars we looked at. Although I really do enjoy the little luxuries, had I known this car would end up being our primary vehicle I would have chosen something with a little less comfort and more MPG. The car also sits a little lower than other sedans I've driven and has an even lower plastic band in the front, which constantly scrapes the ground when backing out of our steep driveway. That said, this car has held up very nicely to the daily grind; the mileage is nearing 120,000 and I literally just started having trouble with one of the back windows!
Going to a drive-in A&W and enjoying our food in our comfortable car, listening to a podcast through the car radio in our first car with an AUX input.

- System messages as phrases rather than just lights
- Ability to record two driver seating arrangements
- Air vents for the backseat
- Roomy trunk
- Handling 100,000+ miles very well

- Consumes more Gas than I like
- Button to open the Trunk is hidden in the glove box
- Seems to be lower-than-average clearance

1999 Buick Lucerne - Solid car, defective paint
Honda is a solid company, and they make affordable cars that last many miles. I owned a 1997 Honda Civic HB CX, and loved it. I then bought a 1999 Honda Civic HB DX. Now 15 years later, it's still my main car. The Hatchback is a convenient design, if I have longer items like a bicycle, the seats fold down, and it fits just fine. The paint on my car, Amethyst Pearl (dark purple) was a stock color. 5 years in, the paint started flaking off. Now 10% of the car has paint flaked down to the primer, with visible rust in some parts. The dealership zone rep offered to pay half of the repaint, and I would have had to pay $1700. Because they gave me a defective part. I said no thanks, and will put that into my next car purchase. Until then, I've been overall very happy with my Honda Civic, and h... (more)

Until then, I've been overall very happy with my Honda Civic, and have a lot of good memories with it, over many years. Just had the powertrain maintenance done (which is usually done around 100K miles). Also the main computer did die about 5 years ago, and that was a $1000 fix. I drive it weekly at the least, and it's still going strong. Gas mileage is 27-34 m.p.g. Steering is very exact and easy to maneuver.
My mother passed away in 2005, and I have several memories of driving her through holiday light display parks, or driving her to a casino (she loved penny slot machines). I took mom on drives in the country in that car. My best memory in the car was of mom listening to Nat King Cole on the stereo, tapping her hand on her thigh, smiling. She loved being chauffeured around in my little Honda Civic.
