My 99 Buick LeSabre Custom is one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned. It has a long life, easily making it past the 200k mark before it becomes too difficult to fix. Parts are easily interchangeable with other similar vehicles from its era, which makes it easy to find parts in store or in a yard. I can use an 11mm or 13mm socket on almost anything on the vehicle, which is convenient when you are limited on tools, like me. I deliver mail with this car and can see why so many rural drivers choose this type of car to deliver their mail, too!
Story
Vehicle has a knack for destroying birds, whether it be a small sparrow, a fat pigeon, a slow pheasant, or a confused goose. This car seems to find them all, unfortunately.
Pros
3.8L Series II engine is the #1 feature. I purchased the car knowing it wouldn't let me down until after the body and transmissions had already been repaired. Smooth handling. I hate the "boat" feeling I can get in some vehicles. I don't feel this way in the LeSabre, even compared to the similar models of Bonneville and Park Avenue. Highway mileage is great. I can go for weeks without filling up if I stick to mainly highway driving. Durability is also important for mail carriers. This car is lighter than a truck or Jeep, so as long as you have tread on your tires it's hard to get stuck in ... (more)
Cons
Transmission didn't make it to 150k miles on the LeSabre. Rear suspension has gotten worse after 120k miles. Still rides smoothly, just bounces up and down more now than it used to. Radio quality leaves something to be desired. If I didn't load my speakers with gravel road dust, it would be better, but still not great. Tire size is weird. When I went to get my tires changed, I had to look in the "Light Truck Tire" selection.

2003 Buick LeSabre - Classic Buick is ideal.

I have driven a 2003 Buick LeSabre Custom since buying it new in December, 2002. There are a lot of cars on the market, but I believe Buick stands out above the rest. It is a classic, American-made vehicle that is safe, affordable, and stylish. I have had very little maintenance issues, and I am impressed with how well the car performs overall.
Story
My father has driven Buick LeSabre cars for decades and I swore when I grew up, I would have a Corvette or something sporty. I've been driving Buick LeSabre cars since 1995, and now that my dad is passed (2012) I still hold on to my 2003 LeSabre because they're not made anymore and the car reminds me of dad. My car was actually "totaled" a few years ago, and I had it salvaged. Still drives great!
Pros
There is plenty of leg room and flexibility with seat adjustments. A roomy console allows for storing electronics, music and even books. Leather seats are exceptional options that come with a heated seat feature. The trunk is also roomy, allowing for a wide variety of storage needs. Six people can sit comfortably in a Buick, and it rides smooth on the highway like a luxury car.
Cons
The gas mileage is around 18 - 19 per gallon for city driving. It has a V-8 motor, so it takes gas to make it perform. The console has a well-lit display, but the lights go out after a couple of years, leaving a half-lit dash. Eventually, the entire dash is dark at night and it's hard to see what buttons to press on radio and heat/air. The console is nice, but it has a plastic frame and if you lean on it too frequently, it will crack and the lid will not function properly.
